Questions

Q: HOUSE INSPECTION can be used for home inspection? i mean it can detect heat loss on interior wall and even outdoor wall. usually these cameras there are built for specific use (plumbing, electrical, construction). I d like to check wall surface.

2 Answers
  • A: Yes for walls, but realize it has a fairly coarse sensitivity (+/- 1°C) and does not have a graphic scale. That being said, you should easily be able identify heat loss through drafty window frames, poorly insulated roofs and inside, detect cold spots around electrical outlets, studwall top plates, etc. Just remember to use the built-in IR thermometer to measure the spot you have identified to see how much of a cold or hot spot it really is compared to the surroundings (this device unfortunately does not provide a temperature scale like more expensive models do). The greater the interior/exterior temperature difference, the better will be your result.

Q: Would this be good for finding mice that are hiding in walls?

1 Answer
  • A: Yes, mice are warm-blooded and emit a temperature. Their infrared emissivity makes them easily detectable by an infrared thermographic imaging camera. The imaging camera is able to produce graphic images of the rodents when their hideouts are scanned. The inspections are best done during cold weather when the rodents are radiating a lot of heat due to the cold surroundings.

Q: Will this device work for distant objects (100-200 feet) or is it just meant for close work?

1 Answer
  • A: That depends on the object size at that distance, but the short answer is that the TG165 is intended for use at close ranges, not 100-200ft. Though the TG165 can see a large object at 100-200ft it is not designed for distance applications. It does not have zoom capabilities or high IR resolution which is very helpful in those types of applications.
