    So far, so good!

Bought this in spring 2014. Easy to install, the diverter works quite well. The tap on it dripped a tiny bit, so I put a splitter on it, which deals with that issue nicely. The flat back did bulge a little, but I don't have it flush against a wall, so I don't much care about that. In general, I think this is a pretty solid product.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    bottom cracks after a year

product worked fine for the first year. Drained for the winter and the next year, it developed 4 cracks at each rib on the bottom. Seams to be a design or type of plastic problem. My save the environment quest just put a large piece of plastic in the landfill. Maybe a round barrel type like my other one would be better.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Cheap Spigot

I had this rain barrel set up for 2 weeks and the spigot sheared off at the barrel. It had not been hit or abused. The barrel itself seems strong. Not sure why they use such a cheap plastic spigot.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    A bit finicky to install...

As some reviews have mentioned some alterations to the downpipe may be necessary (none ever seem to be 'standard') as well as the good old caulking gun, but once you manage that the barrel goes in smoothly and looks great in our yard. Am looking forward to the first heavy downfall to use the water for my ever growing veggie garden. And as a bonus, it's on sale now! Good purchase.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Fast installation and looks great!

Have been searching for a long time for a good rain barrel that looks decent. Bought this on the weekend and had no problems installing it. It also looks really sharp against the house. No problem with the lid fitting as it snaps on tightly. If there are spaces where the downspout connects to the diverter you can add caulking around the edge inside the diverter. This will prevent the water from leaking through the bottom diverter opening and caulking won't be visible on the outside. You can also easily add a second rain barrel to this system. Very pleased with this purchase.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Is there a preventative measure for mosquito reproduction / breeding with this barrel?

    2 Answers
    • A: There is a very snug lid that comes with it. I did not have any mosquito issues after one season, and I don't anticipate any.

Q: Fiskars water barrels diverter issue - won't work with my 3X3 downspouts just bought 4 of these barrels and found out that the diverters work for 2x3 and 3x4 downspouts while mine are 3x3 (or just shy of 3x3, say 2 3/4 x 2 3/4). Do you have any solutions?

    • A: You may need some tin snips and make kinks in the downspout a little to get it to fit, then put some caulking (outdoor rated) to seal for a good fit. Mine worked out great and I have the same 3X3 like yours. Good luck!

Q: Is spigot designed to accept a garden hose ?

    2 Answers
    • A: Yes, my garden hose fit great, but unless you have a totally full barrell I couldn't imagine you'd get much pressure, unless you installed some kind of pump system. Works great with drip hoses layed at ground level( i.e. below the spigot level ), or otherwise a watering can is necessary, but the rainwater is so good for your plants this doesn't bother me!
