It sounds like the locking mechanism isn’t holding properly. Make sure the blades are fully closed when engaging the lock, and the knob is tightened. Excellent for people who are in their late seventies or early eighties as bending over can be very difficult. You can’t get a better cutter!! For younger people it is so good you can not find a more excellent cutter!!!!

Q: Can it trim up perennials in the fall/spring?

A: Yes as long as the stems aren’t too thick and tough. I have several hosta beds and lots of ferns and I find these shears work quickly without me bending over. A very good investment for me.
