Cracks when empty too

We hadn't even used it yet. I bought the beige rain barrel 3 years ago. It was in the garden each summer without any water in it. It's always been in our shed each winter. This year, 2025, May we put it to use only to find a large circular crack in the bottom. I couldn't believe it. From now on we will collect water from our sump pump instead and use it immediately. I am not prepared to keep throwing my hard earned money away. As an aside in the 70's my late grandmother used a wooden barrel and it worked exceptionally well for decades.

Does not last through winter

Purchased this in June 2024 but it did not last through the winter. We have had other rain barrels over the years and have left water in the unit over winter with no issues. Will be looking at another brand for replacement.

Q: Is this a year round rain barrel?

A: Do not listen to anyone who says this can't survive winter. Yes it can. Mine has. The point is that it cannot be used during the winter. You must empty all the water out of it. Turn it upside down, and you should place a tarp over it during the winter or move it to some place where it can be covered from snow and ice. Water always freezes and cracks plastic, and most of these customers who bought this, seemed to not be paying attention in science class. So no, don't use it in the winter. Put it away or cover it and then in spring it'll be good to go. As mentioned empty it and turn it upside down, so NO WATER remains.
