Dyson DC51 Animal Upright Vacuum

This vacuum is amazing. I was appalled at how much dust and pet hair my old vacuum was missing! The assembly was relatively easy and the machine is light weight and easy to carry. Definitely worth the money!

Does a great job and picking up everything, however I find it a big big/clunky. Not ideal for doing stairs. Also wish there was a bit more power/suction with the laminate floor tool.

Amazing how those little dog hairs get sucked right up! I always thought our carpets were clean ... until we got the Dyson Animal. Now our carpets are clean!

Too many reviewers are wearing their rosy glasses. It's a good vacuum, but there are some shortcomings that it has that can "make or break" the decision to buy it. First, the cord is only 25 ft long. For a machine of this expense, you'd expect that it would be at least 30-35 ft. Highly annoying to run out of cord. Secondly, the capacity of the bin is far too small and has to be emptied frequently. In that frame of mind, its bottom-release mechanism does not "keep your hands clean" because you often have to reach in there with your fingers and get the dirt and pet hair out. At best, you have to knock the canister against the side of the garbage pail, which causes dust to go into the air. The extension hose and tool is hard to get used to, and it does NOT extend very far. You have to pick up the vacuum by its dustbin handle if you want to reach the ceiling corners comfortably. Luckily, it's a lightweight machine. The extension tool is also hard to put back into place, and just plain clumsy. It does not pick up larger pieces of dirt or debris if the debris is pushed against a baseboard. You have to use the extension hose with the thin-ended cleaning tool on it and then go along the baseboards after sweeping. Annoying. You won't use a machine like this for giving the car a quick vacuum because the extension hose tool is too rigid and clumsy. On the positive side, it's very quiet, easy to manoeuvre, and compact to store. It cleans very well. But overall, I would say that its negatives outweigh the positives, especially when the high price is taken into consideration.
