So many problems in first 5 years

Truthfully stay away from this vaccum. The first year no problems after that, nothing but problems literally everything is falling apart.. 1 . Red button broke off canister now can not be removed to clean out. 2. Big roller ball cracked and scratches floor and hard to push and turn. 3. Two Buttons one to turn on vaccum and other to remove canister broken and stick. 4 . Head of vaccum that contains brushes change twice both times the wheel coasters at front of vaccum broke and would not turn. 5. . Canister always falling off and dirt spilling on floor when picking up vaccum to carry downstairs .. 6 . Hard to use wand to clean furniture because hose starts contracting and your fighting to move hose to clean.. 7. Hard to clean around base board no suction at edges of head.. $600 piece of Garbage I called customer service to fix the latest issues and they want 300$ for repairs .. what a joke .. better to buy $200 vaccums that last 3 years. Very poor quality and customer service...

Not Worth the Price

I purchased the DC43 about 5 years ago when I decided I'd rather invest in a good vacuum that I wouldn't have to replace every year. At first I really liked it. The suction was fantastic, it was easy to maneuver, and the canister was easy to empty. Since then I feel I have had enough time with the machine to give a proper review. The vacuum picks up everything, including dog hair from a heavy shedder, extremely well on carpet. I find it doesn't perform nearly as well on tile or laminate; there seems to always be some small pieces of whatever left behind. The size of the machine makes it difficult to get under furniture. I could always use the hose with one of the many attachments, but there is the other thing I dislike - the hose is very stiff and doesn't extend nearly as long as it claims to. It is so annoying to use, that I just avoid using it altogether. I figured it would loosen up over time, but it's been five years now and it's still horrendous. I am under the impression that the vacuum could be left at the bottom of a staircase and you could use the hose with an attachment to easily clean the entire staircase. I'm not sure if I have a bad hose or not, but I can barely get three steps done without having to really pull at the hose and hold it in position (with a decent amount of force) just to be able to vacuum a few steps. I've resorted to carrying the machine up the stairs to do each step, and the machine is NOT light. I was excited to use this machine to clean my vehicle, mostly for the pet hair that seems to deposit all over. I am very disappointed with its performance in the vehicle. I use a few of the attachments, but none of them really do any good. It even has a difficult time just to pick up sand and dirt from shoes; I have to go over the same area multiple times, and even then it's never fully clean. I would be lucky to pick up even 25% of the fur that is stuck to my seats. My husband swears his $50 shop vac does a better job in the vehicle than this beast. I can't comment on the animal brush attachment, as my dog is terrified of the vacuum so obviously won't let me come near her to brush out her fur with it. Over time the little wheel on the bottom of the suction head managed to fall off, making it so the suction of the machine was so strong the vacuum couldn't even be turned without excessive force (to the point I stopped using the vacuum because I felt I would have snapped the handle before being able to turn the machine). I did manage to have this issue resolved by phoning their support line and they sent me a brand new suction head free of charge. 5 stars for customer service! All in all, the vacuum isn't terrible by any means, but I don't feel that it is worth the price. My sister has a different vacuum (not a Dyson) that she paid about $150 for and it works very well, and is much lighter and easier to maneuver than mine. I can't say that mine works any better than hers to justify the high price tag. I wouldn't recommend this product, and I will not be purchasing another once it eventually dies. I would rather spend $150 or so every couple of years on a smaller, lighter model than $500-$700 on a Dyson whose supposed great features don't even work that well.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Not great for kids

Cheerios plugs it up - if you have toddlers it's not going to be fun. We can't vacuum something if it's very big: cracker pieces, rogue macaroni noodles or popcorn will either get pushed around by the vacuum head or if it does make it in will plug up the cyclones and stop your suction. With those larger pieces you have to empty the canister multiple times in a vacuum session even though the canister barely has anything in it. However if the Cheerios are ground to dust, it does a really good job in sucking it up. I will go back to Miele next time - my neptune with bag made short work of Cheerios and had equivalent suction.

  • A: It comes with 6 small attachments - some are strange looking. However, in the instruction booklet, there is a diagram showing one of the attachments on stairs. So I would say "yes" to your answer.
