After finding birds trying to nest in my old exhaust hood. I needed a replacement for the weathered and exhausted original. This fit the bill perfectly. It lets the air from the fan out and keeps the birds from getting in. Don't worry I'm sure the birds found another vent in the neighbourhood to make their summer home

Q: Can this vent be installed horizontally? (will it stay closed?)

A: It should have zero issues mounting it the way you need to! If it's being used as a dryer vent, just make sure it doesn't get clogged up, then you'll find it might stay open. If it's going to a ceiling vent for a fan in the loo, you'll be just fine, my friend! The only issue might be is if the vent is mounted too low, from under the eaves, and you could see some icing up if there's too much humidity...especially in the spring! Hope this helps a wee bit, mate?!

Q: How long is the aluminum piece at the end of the vent
