Dremel Rotary 31-Piece Sanding/Grinding Micro Kit, 727-01

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First let me say this is a nice little set. It comes with a nice selection of bits for sanding/shaping. The only thing that prevented me for rating this as a 5 is that the sanding bits/drums did not hold up so well when used on metal. The reinforced cut-off wheels are decent, and performed fairly well on metal, but due to their size the wore out quick and would tend to break easily if they caught while cutting sheet metal. I mostly use my Dremel for automotive use (ie cutting, smoothing, grinding metal and sheet metal) and sheet metal cutting and finishing is what I tested this kit on. When cutting 18 gauge steel, the cut-off discs worked well, but would wear down fast. As I mentioned above, when cutting at time they would catch near the end of the cut and break. Where they did work well was in smoothing down the rough lip/edge on the metal that I had cut through. After I had cut my sheet metal, I tried the sanding bits to see how they performed with getting rid of the sharp edges. While the sanding bits did work to smooth the metal edges, all of the sanding and grinding stones seemed to wear away too fast to be of much use. Here again I found that if I was careful and used the cut-off wheels I could smooth my edges down. All-in-all this is a nice little set, though I don't think I would recommend this set for metal use. It seems as if it would be a better kit for wood working.

The included "get started" guide under the accessory tray tells new and seasoned Dremel users the application for each item. The kit makes it easy for us all to be successful.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Dremel 727 Sanding/Grinding Kit is versatile and can be used on many different materials. The sanding bands and drum, 407, 408 and 432, are great to clean rabbit cuts in wood with different grit to achieve the proper finish. The Dremel 426 Fiberglass Reinforced cut-off wheel is ideal making controlled cuts into PVC and metals. I have used the wheels to cut zinc borders for stained glass panels. And it makes clean miter or square cuts. The Dremel 85422 grinding stone is useful to clean burrs that have been produced by ring saws on stained glass pieces. To assist in keeping the glass cool I use an eye dropper and occasionally drip water on the working surface. Goggles or face shield should be worn as eve/face protection are necessary.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Nice little kit. It came with everything I needed. Helped me to sand some hard to get at areas on my wood craft projects that I couldn't get at with my big sander. I would recommend for beginner crafters.

I have always found them to be well made and exactly what I need to prepare and finish my projects. I use the sanding accessories to prepare my pieces for finishing. The stones I use to clean up some of the cuts on my chip carving. I highly recommend this product.
