Genuinely impressive bit

I don't ordinarily leave reviews, but I was impressed enough by this little turquoise guy to make an exception. I normally work with ultra-dense, resinous hardwoods that dull, gum up, and overheat standard carving bits so quickly that they aren't even worth using. I picked up one of these at the hardware store on an impulse and was legitimately amazed by its performance. "Power Carving" is no exaggeration. This thing has been breezing smoothly through persian ironwood all day, hasn't dulled in the slightest, hasn't clogged, and remains relatively cool to the touch afterward. An honest-to-goodness 10/10 product. Highly recommend with full confidence. If you've been unimpressed with rotary carving bits in the past, give these a try -- they are simply on another level.

Dremel Power Carving Bit 9952-A Professional Tool

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] At last, Dremel has developed carving bits that do what they’re supposed to do. Seams like this Dremel 9952 Power Carving Bit was a long time in the comming- but the wait was well worth it. The 9952 along with the Dremel Power Carving Bit 9951 proved to be a dynamic duo capable of about everything I could throw at it. I’m hard on tools- I’m hard on tool accessories- so i expected decent performance with a pretty quick failure. Instead, I got excellent performance and 2 new bits that I will store under lock and key. This bit- actually BOTH bits- are the real deal. I’ve purchased aggressive carving bits from several third party suppliers and had my favorites I thought couldn’t be beat. I can’t go so far as to say the 9952 (and 51) are ‘better’, but they are at least equal to top tier performers- and most surprisingly: priced better!! I was a little shocked on that- but highly appreciative. I did receive these two new power carving bits from Dremel to do this review, and I’m a little impartial to the organization as a whole, but that doesn't influence my reviews and these 2 Power Carving Bits (9951) and (9952) need absolutely no biased help anyway. I recommend the 9951-just as I did the 9952- to anyone working or carving wood with a Dremel or any rotary tool. It will instantly carve a place in your ‘must have’ collection. (Pun intended)

Yes, I recommend this product.

  • Day One of what will be a carving of the old Volkswagen Baja Bug.
  • This Bulldozer was created using only the 9951 and 9952 Powr carving bits.
  • Hard on tools! Having discolored it slightly-it appears to still have all its teeth-impressive

Good long lasting carving bit

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Holds up well to long carving sessions on wood. The length and shape lend to some feasibility in carving. Didn't seem to clog up as fast on plastics as other bits - requires matching the RPMs close to recommended.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Very different and useful bit

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm going to repeat my review of a similar bit here, the only difference is it's size and shape: I was sent this free for a review. I'm a little late due to the time of year, condition of my shop & other projects going on. In any event, these are cool looking rotary tool bits with all the nasty looking little spikes and the color they are coated with - not a bit you would accidentally want to touch while in operation. I had no project to use these on but did "play" with them on various pieces of hard & soft wood I had on hand. Also tried them with some Dermel low power rechargeable battery tools and high powered plug-in tools. Using the low power tools these bits worked nicely to clean or slowly shave off the surface of the woods; good for more delicate shaping. With the more powerful tools you could do the same thing plus more intense/faster wood shaping/carving. Thought that all these little spikes on the bits would grab and remove material to fast and maybe also be a bit hard to control, but they worked easily and smoothly. These would make a good addition to anyone's bit collection for woodworking.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Aggressive Appearance with a Soft Touch

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I didn't have an active project to use this on, so I decided to just test it out on some scrap wood I had lying around. The bit has an aggressive, spiky appearance, so I expected it to remove material pretty effectively. What I was surprised by was how effortlessly this tool actually carved into/through the wood.  And in spite of the aggressive appearance of the bit, it actually allows you to carve the material fairly smoothly. Finer detail work might still require some finishing after the fact, but relative to how well it removes material, it doesn't leave as rough of a surface I'd expected. Using this bit you have the capability of finer detail work – if you're looking to just remove material, you might be happier with the 9951 ball tip bit. I'm glad got both bits; they are going to be a great addition to my tool arsenal.

Yes, I recommend this product.
