I’m returning this item unused and unopened as Canadian tire will not refund if the item has been opened. Unfortunately it doesn’t appear to have a built in cutter for the bags so I didn’t open it. My previous food saver had one and it was very convenient as cutting with scissors didn’t always provide a straight cut.

A: Same issue here, but I just push down on the top a little. Yes it's a hassle but hopefully it loosens up a bit with more use.

A: I have been using the bags from Costco. They are cheap compared to cuisinart and work really well.

Q: Why does the vacumn function fail once in awhile. Then i wait and try again after 3-4 minutes it works? No obstructions, all clean and bag is fine.

A: probably because there isn't enough time for the machine to cool down and it shuts down when overworked/overheated. That can be an issue with the cheaper units, you are limited on how many bags you can seal in a row. How many bags do you do before it shuts down? I'd guess it's several. I try to mix up the vac'ing of bags with the sealing of the 1st end. Spreads out the actual frequency you are using the pump to draw air out.
