Sturdy and Reliable

This a new purchase for me. The panels appear to be well built and durable. A friend has a series of panels at his cottage and has used them for over 10 years without any issues. I purchased my panels based on his experience.

Does not come with necessary controller, if not wiring it into a permanent setup.

This was being cleared at the end of the season and I thought I had scored a deal. Was camping and due to circumstances, didn't have hydro at site that we thought we did. But had an already slightly discharged 12 volt battery so this would be perfect. When I unpacked it at the campsite it had no controller, unlike the Noma brand I had bought a couple of years ago. It's Coleman- I figured it would be a good purchase. (Controller is needed to ensure battery isn't damaged by overcharging.) Nope- I'd need to spend another 155 +tx on a controller, bringing total cost for 5 camping days of 12 v power to about $425, tax in. Back it went, but they were also clearing a smaller capacity panel so I took that back to camp. Reading the instructions, inside, it became clear that this one could only charge cell phones and laptops. Not 12 v batteries. It was a decent price on clearance but if that is all it could do, the original price was ludicrous. Anyway, back it went....Coleman needs to be more clear on its packaging. But the customer service woman I dealt with at the Leamington CT store? An absolute gem. One of the most positive CS experiences I have had. Left me with a nice memory of that store. In conclusion- I can't really judge the product's performance. Coleman products are typically very good and these likely were too. So I have set the "stars" in the middle. Time wasted with unclearly packaged products, time well spent with superior customer service person in Leamington.

cost effective solar panel

excellent well made unit works very well! a very sturdy frame encasing the panel . a design improvement would be at least 6 through frame attatchment holes or a keyed moveable clip set around outer edge of frame.

Solid panel, performs well so far!

I purchased two of these during a ‘25% off’ sale. Upon unpacking them I discovered one had de laminated. The store replaced it immediately so that was good. They’re installed on the roof of my van doing a great job at keeping a bluetti ac200p topped up. I’m considering adding a third the next time they go on sale. So far they’re performing well! It’s 4 stars instead of 5 because they’re a pricy panel and they didn’t come with mc4 plugs, we had to purchase these separately. For the price of these panels it would be great if the connectors were already wired in. I would buy these again and duplicate my van set up for a cabin but would definitely wait for them to be on sale!

Q: Il ne viens pas avec le régulateur de batterie?

  • A: Non.

Q: My 150W panel came with only two black wires not red and black as stated in the manual. No positive or negative indicators on black wires. How do I install this???

  • A: Both wires have a tag attached to specify which is positive and negative. I purchased 4 panels and each is set up this way.

Q: Should someone install a cutoff switch after the panel next to the controller for when the RV is connected to shore power for a long period? I use my 5th wheel for occasional outings ( 2-3 times) but I am mostly hooked up to a/c power most of the Summer.

  • A: A heavy-duty double-pole, single throw (DPST) switch with sufficient capacity connected between the charge controller and the panel(s) should not cause any issues.

Q: Does this come with all the controls needed to hook up to the rv battery . IE. to control over charging etc.

  • A: Here's the one I'm using! Click on this and it should take you right to it! This is a Night shot, so safe to disconnect it and take a picture. Made a small mount to attach it to a window sill, pointing inwards. http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/coleman-30a-12v-solar-panel-charge-controller-0111891p.html#srp

Q: What gauge is the wire that comes with the 150W panel? Sunforce website was of no help with parts and I emailed customer service and they directed me to my local hardware store.

  • A: It was some time ago I installed the unit in my boat and I just sold it.  As I remember the wire gauge was more than adequate to reach my battery bank.  I believe the gauge was or was close to 10.  The panel was a great addition to the boat as it kept the house batteries charged.  If you have a longer run, use a heavier gauge from the panel.

Q: can I use two of these panels with a group 27 battery and the coleman 30amp controller?

2 Answers
  • A: A 30A solar charge controller can handle up to 450W of solar input. So two 150W panels should be fine connected to a single controller in parallel.

Q: Are these monocrystalline or polycrystalline? They are on sale this week in store and this will be the deciding factor.

2 Answers
  • A: These 150W Coleman panels I bought are monocrystalline panels; they are made very well and perform as expected. Please note that you'll need to source your own mounting hardware and connectors, as the 150W Coleman panels don't come with these items. Please also note that the VOC Max on these panels puts them within safe ranges to be used on any solar panel charge controller *(as long as system voltage & W Max is observed), which is nice. Cheers!
