Good gas

Pours a clear transparent hue. Notes of solvent and gooseberry on the nose. Good body, long legs. Pairs nicely with Coleman 200A, 236, and other lanterns, as well as Tourist camp stoves. Careful decanting, quite flammable.
  • That's some camp fuel!

  • A: Hello, Max013. Thank you for reaching out to us with your inquiry. We understand that you want to know if the fumes from the Coleman® Fuel, Naphtha burnt gas are toxic in a confined space. We would be delighted to answer your inquiry. Please be advised that Coleman burning appliance SHOULD NOT BE USED indoors or in enclosed areas. They are designed to be used OUTDOORS. Even with the Catalytic Heaters, ventilation is required to prevent the buildup of Carbon Monoxide which can kill. We hope we were able to answer your question. Please let us know if you need further assistance. Thank you and have a wonderful day.

  • A: Yes this is naptha gas and is liquid, and is great for cleaning metal...but in my experience leaves a residue, but is a great degreaser and is great for a first wash......be sure to follow msds recommendations like respirator, splash goggles, and gloves for your protection.

Q: I refinish antiques and use denatured alcohol to clean the wood after sanding and before staining. Could I use Coleman Camp Fuel for this purpose? Thank you.

  • A: Hello! Thank you for your question. Please be advised that it is not recommended. It has some dye and rust inhibitor added to the mixture, which might cause issues with the stain and clear finish. Might cause issues with painting as well.

Q: Can you use zippo lighter fluid as well if it is the same as the fluid for the coleman stoves? I have lighter fluid that I don't use.

  • A: Common sense tells me no, it is designed to be used with naphtha only, and using something else could be very dangerous. It says right on the stoves and lanterns do not use ethynol or doped fuel. Coleman does make multi fuel stoves and lanterns unless you have one of them I would not try it. Using something else may not be as clean burning or damage the cardboard tube in the generator causing an explosion? I just bought a 1983 Coleman lantern in brand new condition, except the globe was crack, it was used once. They used kerosene, it did not work well, and the explosion crack the globe. 28 years later I get it, replace the globe clean out the non-naphtha fuel and it works like a charm.

Q: Does this expire? I have a 4L can thats pretty full but has been opened before, probably 16 years old.

1 Answer
  • A: An un-opened container of Coleman® Fuel stored in a dry area with no rapid extreme changes in temperature will remain viable for five to seven years. An opened container stored in the same area will remain viable for up to two years though will be at its best if used within a year.
