It's not you, Coleman, it's the low-lumen product.

The feeling I got when using this lamp was that, simply because it carried the COLEMAN name, I had high expectations—at least hoping for decent quality and a fair value for the price. However, they didn't lie on their packaging; it clearly states 200 lumens, and that's exactly what you get. The real question is: what can you actually illuminate with those 200 lumens? Well, the photo proves it: nothing, or next to nothing. I definitely do not recommend it for camping. For its market price, there are far better options available.

Battery Guard Mini-Lantern is absolutely the BEST

This newer updated 2nd generation 200 lumens Battery Guard version of the older model is a definite and laudable improvement. I have several of the older models (some from the 1990's) that still work well and get their share of usage on camping and backpacking trips. Although they are well constructed and also run on 4-AA batteries, the new model lasts even longer and the LED light is usefully brighter. I now own 3 of the new models and will likely be retiring some of the older ones to use around the house or keep in our vehicles for emergencies.

Yes, I recommend this product.
