We've had this product several years for emergencies, never really needed it but I test it regularly and it has always worked. So far so good. One point off for the oil filler cap though - it's plastic with two little posts to turn it by, takes visegrips to get it loose to remove and if you're not lucky you may have to remove the battery to be able to get hold of the cap with the visegrips. And putting it back took me ten minutes today - just refuses to thread straight.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Questions

Q: can it be connected the the house propane tank? I have a 1510L propane tank for my house heating etc., can I hook this generator to it instead of using its own small tank?

    • A: Look up US Carburetion. The sell kits to convert many brands of generators to run on propane and natural gas. Note that this may void your warranty.

Q: is the 240v twistlock plug also 20 amp?

    3 Answers
    • A: The twist plugs are industry standard 30 amp twist lock female plugs but they are protected by 25 amp breakers as shown on the panel, in the manual, and on the schematic. One of the 25 amp breakers also feeds in series through a 20 amp breaker to the standard house style wall plug on the panel. Basically you have 25 + 25 amps or 50 x 130volts = 6500 watts which is the generators rating apart from momentary start up surges which the breakers support for the 7800 watt starting rating.

    • A: Un peu moins que 30 ampères. Si tu fais le calcul 6500W/240V ça donne environ 27 ampères.

    Q: Need 220Volt, 50Hz, 3kw running- 4500w starting,single phase

    • A: Are you sure you want 50 Hz for use in Canada or was this a typo? If 60 Hz, then yes this generator will supply it, If 50 Hz then this generator is listed in the manual as a BIG NO - "DO NOT connect 50 Hz loads to the generator."

Q: Does this generator also have a pull start?

    2 Answers
    • A: Yes, and it works well. Instead of using the electric starter for my generator's first start I used the pull start to circulate a bit of oil before turning on the switch. Then, I used the pull start again (to see how easy it was to start) after switching on the panel switch and it started up on the first pull. The battery/electric start of course is the easiest.

Q: does this need a switch neutral kit? When using this unit with a manual transfer switch, do we also need to install a switch neutral kit? Does this generator have the neutral wire bonded to the ground wire?

    2 Answers
    • A: Any of the transfer switches I have installed switched the neutral as well as both lines so an additional neutral switch is not needed and the Generator is bonded to the frame and is recommended by the manufacturer to connect to a suitable ground while in use. There is a lug located on the control panel that you would connect a ground wire to a ground rod for example but alway check with your local code rules.

Q: Do We require an electrician to install generator transfer panel

    2 Answers
    • A: Yes, I would recommend getting a licensed Electrican to complete the work. I also recommend a product called Generlink, it is a transfer switch that goes between the meter and the meter socket and it doesn't require any changes to your house wiring. It's available in 30 amps and 60 amps and I have installed these units before. Ask your contractor about them.

Q: Can both the 120v and 120/240v twist locks be used simultaneously? Can both the 120v and 120/240v twist locks be used simultaneously? I'd like to run my 240v pump and power some 120v items at the same time.

    • A: Yes, but you need to be careful of the amperage as the 240 plug shares the feed on one of its poles with the other twist plug and shares the other pole with the feed for the house style 15/20amp plugs. So as long as the total of one plus the other does not exceed 25 amps you should be okay. You may be able to also share some load with the house plugs in use to push it to 25 + 25 amps but it depends on what each load is and where it is plugged. Check the circuit diagram in the manual. I would say that if you have a big amp rating for the 240 volt motor you are going to be hard pressed to get more things to work but if it is in the order of 5 -10 amps you should be okay to add more to the other plugs. For example, you likely won't run much more if you're feeding a hot tub or a large pool pump or central a/c running 240 volt due to their larger amp draws.
