A: Drywall finishing usually has 3 coats.Drying time varies according to temperature and humidity.When I’m doing a job I apply the first coat and sand the next day and then apply the second coat.Small jobs requiring a thin coat could be sanded the same day.If you are able to sand and dust is observed it’s dry.

Q: Could this product be used to skim coat over a textured ceiling?

A: Thank you for your question, CGC would advise against skim coating over a texture ceiling and would suggest removing the texture and then refinish. Another option would be to add an additional layer of ½” Ultralight Drywall and then finish if you want to avoid the nuisance of having to remove their texture.

A: Yes, CGC Sheetrock All-Purpose Drywall Compound can be used as a skim coat on a wall. In terms of using the product to create a textured wall. It can be used to create a textured finish on a wall but only for certain styles of textured finishes. Three texture finishes that can be completed by hand application with this product are Swirl Finish, Crow’s Foot and Stipple Texture. Any other style of textured finishes require a different type of CGC product and spray application.

A: Yes, CGC ready-mixed drywall compound will shrink as the product dries. The amount of shrinkage depends on if/how much water is added to the compound (more water = more shrinkage) and the temperature & humidity of the environment.

Q: Could I use this product to fix a punch hole on a wall, as well as a door?

A: The compound can be used with wall patch or piece of drywall to fix a hole in the wall. The compound will not work for this problem with the door. Also the door manufacturer will not honour the warranty if you use the compound.
