Product Details

Does a 26" bike feel a little small? A 29" bike feel a little big? The CCM DS-650 27.5" Dual Suspension Mountain Bike combines the agility and the acceleration of a 26" bike with the increased stability and rollover performance of a 29" bike, it's the best of both worlds! The lightweight aluminum frame is built on a tough suspension fork and a 4-bar rear suspension system, making it a great option for tearing up the trails. The shifting system is from the best company in the industry; Shimano. The EZ-Fire shifters, paired with the Shimano derailleurs, make for accurate and smooth shifting all ride long. The wheel sets are built with trail riding in mind, with strong alloy double-wall rims and alloy hubs- but don't worry, the dual disc brakes will slow you to a stop whenever they are called upon.

Don't waste your money!

Don't waste your money. From the get go this bike has given many issues. Hard to tell if it's all quality issue or part assembly issue. The ride is rough for a dual suspension. The brakes aren't that great. Tires are a joke. Gears are very rough when changing. And finally, barely a year of owning with only minimal seasonal riding, and the chain snapped. Would not recommend. Save your money and invest into branded bikes NOT from C.T

No, I do not recommend this product.

Dual shock 27.5 mountain bike CCM

Initiating the front gears with the lever handlebars is very difficult. Using 2 of the gears front to back diagonal chain rubs on front derailleuri not usable( but that’s on all bikes). Very good support from Canadian tire staff. Overall this is a good bike. Only had bike for short time.

Yes, I recommend this product.

For the sale price, it's excellent value.

Purchased this bike a couple weeks ago and I'm very happy with it. I had to adjust the brakes a little. The pads were rubbing while in motion creating resistance. And I upgraded the tyres and tubes to achieve more of a Touring style bike. I would highly recommend the Continental Contact Plus 27.5 x 1.5 with Schwalbe AV12 inner tubes. What a difference! I also changed the saddle to a Selle Royal Journey for added comfort.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great bike overall

I bought this bike a couple weeks ago and the build quality is great with premium parts. The brakes may need a little adjusting. The only problem is that because of the large tires when you turn the tire may touch your foot while petaling. Overall the bike is great!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Decent Bicycle, Poor Assembly

I bought this bicycle on sale being very wary of the reputation CCM bicycles have among the offerings at CT. Rolled it out of the store and took it home for inspection and noticed that a lot of the screws needed tightening and the parts lubricated. While the fixes were simple, had I not done them I likely would have seen a combination of issues including a falling saddle, stuttering brakes and issues shifting the front gears. Once I overcame these, the bicycle performed very well on Toronto roads and park trails. Gear transitions are very smooth and the dual suspension allows you to make some decently tight turns on grass and dirt. My only complaint is that the suspension feels a bit stiff to be used as a mountain bike proper so I would be more inclined to use this as 'urban rough' bicycle than something for doing hard trails. I think the lesson here regarding CT bicycles is that the in-store assembly is inconsistent which is likely the cause of a lot the complaints that CCM bikes crumble to pieces after little use. Vet the bicycle once you bring it home to determine any assembly issues and this bike will perform solidly but perhaps not on hard trails; this is an entry level mountain bike by all count.

Questions

Q: I have a decent CCM ds-650 but the bike chain is rusty and I want to replace it. Should I replace it or not? Should I just get a new bike? If I can replace the bike chain what is the size of the chain and what type should I get?

  • A: A chain is a wear and tear part on a bicycle and does need to be replaced from time to time. Canadian Tire has this replacement chain in their bicycle accessory lineup. It’s called the Supercycle bike chain 073-7458. https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/supercycle-bike-chain-link-w-spring-clip-assorted-0737456p.0737458.html#gs In terms of preventing rust on your new chain, it is recommended to keep your chain clean and dry between rides and use the appropriate chain lubricant for the weather (also sold at Canadian Tire under “repair kits and chemicals”)

Q: Bicycle Weight? ad only lists a package weight... not the bike itself

2 Answers
  • A: I don't have a suitable scale to measure the weight of the bike alone... so I had to resort to using the bathroom scales with me holding the bike and then subtracting my weight. The result... just under 37 pounds as the bike's weight.

Q: What kind of tires does this bike have

  • A: If you have this bike and you're looking to change the tyres and tubes to a more road friendly option, get a pair of Continental Contact Plus 27.5 x 1.5 tyres and Schwalbe AV12 inner tubes. I did this upgrade to move the characteristics from a MTB to a Touring bike and I'm very glad I did. Much smoother ride.

Q: Tires and tube for DS-650 Just purchased a new DS-650 (71-1063-4). I would like to know the part number and details for a replacement tire and also replacement tube for this bike.

2 Answers
  • A: I know this is 4 years old but, depending on what you're using your bike for, the tyre options would be 27.5 and the tube should be a 27.5 or a 650 type tube. Tube size is dependent on the tyre width you're using. I just recently upgraded to Continental Contact Plus tyres with Schwalbe AV12 tubes and what a massive improvement for road applications.

Q: What is the width of the tires on CCM DS-650 Dual Suspension mountain bike #071-1063-4? Is this bike good to ride on the roads too or does it feel heavy/sluggish on road, on upslope? Will this fit in a sedan with front and rear seats folded to carry ?

1 Answer
  • A: The tires are 1.95" wide. Yes you can ride this bike on a road and on hills, it won't be as efficient as a road or a hybrid bike on paved surfaces, but will work, and will be better on trails and off road. The front wheel has a quick release so that may help if you need to take the wheel off to fit in your car.
