A: Castrol GTX ULTRACLEAN oils should be changed according to the oil and filter change intervals specified in the owner’s manual or as indicated by the oil life monitor for the type of service (normal or severe) that the vehicle is being operated under. To determine the type of service (normal or severe) that your vehicle is being operated under, please refer to the Maintenance section in the owner’s manual and/or contact your local dealership. When motor oil is used in an engine, motor oil additives will break down as they perform their job. This breakdown will also continue over time and continued use, so it is important to change your oil as directed to keep your engine protected.

A: Yes. Castrol GTX SAE 10W-40 is a conventional motor oil with the following ratings ... API, SN, SM, SL & SI. It is blended with additives for enhanced antiwear protection & improved cold/dry-start lubrication of older big-block cast iron car engines. One of these additives is zinc dialkyldithiophosphate. I have used this multi-viscosity oil in a 1978 T-Bird with a 400 cid engine without any internal engine repair issues to-date.

A: GTX is a conventional oil. Syntec is Castrols popular Synthetic. However it tends to be more expensive.

A: Castrol GTX 10W-40 is not recommended for use in a 2015 Yamaha FZ-07 Motorcycle. Castrol does not recommend using passenger car motor oils in motorcycles or ATVs. In 1996, the American Petroleum Institute (API) upgraded the performance standards of motor oil from SG to SJ (currently SP). This upgrade impacted the friction modifiers and zinc and phosphorus levels to address the fuel economy, catalytic converter, and emissions issues of passenger cars. For motorcycles, the additional friction modifiers can affect wet clutch performance, and these engines typically require a higher level of anti-wear additives (zinc and phosphorus). Passenger car oils use friction-modifying additives to reduce friction in specific areas of the engine, such as the valve train and piston ring/cylinder. Friction modifiers react with metals forming a molecular layer that reduces friction between moving surfaces. In a typical motorcycle engine with an oil-immersed clutch (wet clutch), friction modifiers may be absorbed on the clutch plates rather than on the metal surfaces. This can reduce the friction coefficient of the clutch plates, and as a result, the clutch will start slipping, causing a loss of power transfer to the back wheel, overheating, and increased wear. According to Castrol's lubrication guide recommended for the 2015 YAMAHA FZ-07 motorcycle is 10W-40 or 10W-50 motorcycle oil meeting API SG and JASO MA. Castrol Go! 4T 10W-40 motorcycle oil is a conventional motorcycle oil meeting API SG and JASO MA. This oil can be used with confidence in this application.

A: Hi! No, you shouldn't use a 10W-40 oil in your 2020 Hyundai Elantra, since the owner’s manual calls for a 5W-20 or 5W-30.

A: Waste oil disposal programs are available at some of our store locations. Please contact your local store to understand if it is available. If this service is not available at your local store, there are several local municipality depots that you can visit. For the Toronto region, the list of depots can be found on the following site: https://www.toronto.ca/services-payments/recycling-organics-garbage/drop-off-depots/locations/ . Motor oil is classified on this site as a “Household Hazardous Waste”.
