Placemats worked great as a table top cover. I would hesitate to use them directly on a wood table for dinging purposes as moisture could leak through.

Nice placemat they stay in place well but are no good at preventing moisture from getting through . Like if you have a cold drink that 'sweats' on it the moisture just goes right through.
