We must now be prepared for every disaster The emergency preparedness pack from the fire department had 12 heavy water packs and too heavy for me to carry These tabs are perfect and have used them in many many countries where any clean water is unavailable. Used these often in many war, earthquake, flood zones Everyone should have them close by

Decided to use these on a 3.5 day back country canoe trip. I had heard from others and online reviews that there could be a "chemically" aftertaste. I did not experience any altered taste when using these with lake water. Others have suggested using drink flavoring crystals/syrup to offset the chemical taste, but I had no issue with that. You can pour the water through a coffee filter first if there are is visible debris. Great Product at a reasonable price. Way less expensive, easier to use and faster than filtration products. Just take along an empty container with you - I used 4L milk jugs.

Q: Is the aquatab effective against cryptosporidium?

2 Answers

A: They aren't effective against cryptosporidium cysts, but then again, not a lot of things are. They do work against all other forms of the bacteria. The Aqua Tabs site recommends boiling for 1-3 minutes or filtering with a 1-micron filter to remove cryptosporidium cysts and then treatign the water with Aqua Tabs to remove any remaining bacteria.

Q: how does this compare to "Katadyn MicroPur Drinking Water Tablets"? how does this compare to Katadyn MicroPur Drinking Water Tablets? this pack comes with 50 tablets and is almost half the price of the Katadyn MicroPur Drinking Water Tablets

Q: Do you have to boil the water as directed in the video prior to use? Can you just put the tablet into water in a foreign country without boiling and drink it?

A: No need to when using Aquatabs unless the raw water is suspected to contain Cryptosporidium. Aquatabs are not effective against this cyst. Nowadays, best practice is to use mechanical filtration followed by chemical treatment.

Q: I'm currently using this but it makes my water turn yellow and give an unpleasant chemical taste. Is this normal? I am currently using it to disinfect my tap water in Mozambique, which I'm told has some additives in it already. Could there be an adverse reaction?
