Q: Is this product safe for pets?

A: Alaska Premium Ice Melter would not be considered a pet friendly product. If you still decide to use it there are a few precautions you should be taking to protect your pets paws, and surfaces such as floors and carpets. As animals like salts, we recommend that you prevent your pets from licking the ice melter granules. We also recommend that you keep them indoors while the ice melter is being employed. This will reduce the exposure to their paws, and prevent them from tracking residue onto floors and carpet. It is also a good practice to keep a rag or towel near the door that you can use to wipe any ice melter residue from their paws. Alaskan Ice Melter is a Calcium Chloride, Sodium Chloride blend that can have caustic effects if left on the skin. A better choice to use in areas where your pet frequents or plays would be Alaskan Pet Friendly Melter.
