Q: Toxic? Is this antifreeze non-toxic (drinking water safe)?

      Anonymous18 years ago

      • A: Propylene Glycol is the main ingredient in RV antifreeze. It's a food preservative and is used in food flavoring for sweets as candy and icing. It is also used in hospitals in air filtration as it attracts moisture and disinfects by drying things out. I would not suggest taking a big drink of it straight. Overall there is no need to worry about a little bit in your system as it is pretty safe stuff overall. Another option is finding Propylene Glycol UPS food grade in/ at a drugstore or feed store and mix 60/40 Propylene Glycol/ water for piece of mind.

Q: Is this product safe to use if it is put into a jet pump connected to my well that provides drinking water?

      • A: It is, provided that you flush it clean next spring before you use it. In other words, a small amount is harmless. It IS listed as poisonous. There are two kinds of "RV" antifreeze. Ethelene glycol, and Propylene glycol. Propylene is the best. Absolute Zero is Propylene.

      • A: It will even freeze solid!   BUT it will not expand, (up to its rated temperature) and that’s what causes the damage.
