I've always despised wearing a face mask. They're hot, sweaty, uncomfortable, my glasses get fogged up, yadda, yadda. I found these masks game changing. The valve allowing your breath to exhaust quickly really does make a difference. I used these on a sanding project and started to prefer wearing a mask over not. Wearing a mask is still warmer than not but these both narrowed the gap and perfectly filtered out the find dust I created. Worth every penny.

Q: The main point of masks is to protect others (not just yourself) by keeping your exhale closer to your face, and filtering it. Does the exhalation valve on this mask have a filter?

A: This mask is not suitable for the prevention of spreading COVID. The virus can be transmitted through the valves, which offer no filtration at all. The mask has also been shown to spread concentrated exhaled breath and virus particles further than would be expected without a mask. Respirators such as the 8511 with Cool-Flow valve give good protection to the wearer but none to others around them if the wearer is infected with COVID-19. If you are looking for a mask to help prevent the spread, the 3M N5 #8511 with the Cool-Flow valve is NOT safe.

A: From what I’ve read, they protect you from Covid. However since they have the exhale vent on the front it doesn’t protect the people around you as well as a mask without the vent.
