Wish I had paid a bit more & gotten a better clock. This one is quite loud! It has a neutral look to suit most decor and keeps time well though so I gave it a 3/5 stars. I would not recommend this product to a friend unless they were quite deaf & wouldn't notice the loud ticking!

The original no longer in stores

Unfortunately the model in the picture, with a nickel plated rim, made by Westclox, is no longer in stores. I bought one a few years ago, I liked it, and now (Aug. 2011) I wanted to buy another one. Unfortunately it was replaced by a poor replica with a plastic rim of dark-bronze color, now made by LaCross. The original (by Westclox) didn't make much tick noise, but this one (by LaCross) makes a noticeable tick - so I returned it back to the store...

A: The original one (Westclox) didn't make much noise, but the current model (LaCross) unfortunately makes a noticeable ticking noise.
