Who are the Boston Bruins?

The Boston Bruins are a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL). They are one of the Original Six NHL teams and are the third-oldest active team in the league and the oldest of those based in the United States. Founded in 1924, they have a long history and boast six Stanley Cup championship wins, tying for fourth-most with the Chicago Blackhawks. The team colours are black and gold, and their logo features a spoked letter B as a nod to their nickname “The Hub”.

Why are they called the Bruins?
The original owner and general manager of the team wanted to come up with a nickname that centred around a fast, agile, and cunning animal to name the team after. “Bruins” is a name for brown bears in classic folk tales.

Where do the Boston Bruins play?
Based in Boston, Massachusetts in the US, the Bruins originally played in the world’s oldest indoor ice hockey facility still in use at any level of competition, the Matthews Arena (formerly known as the Boston Arena). Eventually, they moved on to play at the Boston Garden between 1928 and 1995 and currently play at the TD Garden.
