What is thermal clothing used for?

Thermal clothing allows you to keep warm in colder weather by maintaining body temperature. They usually come in the form of articles you wear underneath your clothes as layers. You can find thermal socks, thermal underwear, thermal base layers, and insulated sleepwear that will effectively retain heat.

Do thermal clothes really work?

Thermal wear is effective because of the materials they are made with. These items can help wick away sweat, trap heat in between the layers, and insulate against cold air. Layering with cotton layers won’t have the same effect as wearing a thermal layer, as cotton isn’t sweat-wicking and may eventually leave you cold and sweaty.

What is the best thermal fabric?

Although Merino wool is a popular material for base layers, thermal fabrics are often made with a blend of polyester and cotton that provide sweat-wicking and breathable qualities. These fabrics are ideal for providing warmth in extreme cold.

What should I look for when buying thermals?

When shopping for both women’s thermal wear and men’s thermal wear, choose a thermal that will suit the occasion. There is thermal clothing suited for wearing under activewear and others suited for everyday wear. Make sure you choose items that cling to your body but don’t constrict you and consider the fabric of the clothing. Some come with mesh panels for extra breathability while others just act as a comfortable base layer. Canadian Tire carries a range of Outbound and Misty Mountain thermal wear to suit any occasion.

Are base layers the same as thermals?

People often use the terms thermals and base layers interchangeably. Base layers are meant to act as an extra layer worn under your clothes, which essentially offer the same function as thermals.
