FAQs: Jigsaw Blades

Jigsaw blades are typically made from one of four types of metal. High carbon steel, high-speed steel, bi-metal or tungsten carbide. These blades are often associated with different uses, including metal, wood, wood & metal, or ceramic & tile.

Do jigsaw blades fit all jigsaws?

For the most part, jigsaw blades are interchangeable with all jigsaws. All jigsaw blades will fit the T-shape blade slot on modern jigsaws, but older models sometimes have a U-shaped slot. Many models can accommodate both shapes.

How do I choose a jigsaw blade?

You need to consider the TPI measurement displayed by the manufacturer (teeth per inch). This will determine what kind of material the jigsaw blade is best suited for. For reference, a 6-10 TPI blade is ideal for wood. Cutting tougher materials requires a high TPI count and a slower cut speed. These same principles apply when purchasing a reciprocating saw blade.
