Cracked

Purchased this for use in the summer months June-September. Didn't even last 3 seasons (about 10 months actual use) before it cracked at two mounts. It was never even close to being overloaded at any point and was always stored indoors. In the process of trying to get compensation under the warranty.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Cracks after 1 year

Bought it in Nov 2011, used it many times, loaded uo full several times and no problems. Always thought the plastic was flimsy and felxes too much but figured its a Thule so should never have a problem, especially for $600. Just drove to jasper to go skiing and yes the highway had frost heaves and some good bumps but when I got here I saw the plastic on the sides above the rear rails had cracked on both sides. Obviously it can't withstand the flexing. Only had my skiis and boots in it, checked the tighteness before leaving and was fine; not too tight and no loose. Thule better warranty it when I get back or I am shipping it to their head office after I smash it with a hammer! For $600 they should be able to build something stronger and nore durable. Buying Yakima from now on.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: Hi, will it fit a 2021 Nissan Rogue SL. I have factory rails and cross bars.

1 Answer
  • Thule Team

A: Hello, Yes, Thule cargo carriers are tested for compatibility with the factory-installed crossbars on many vehicles. This tests the size, shape, and positioning of the crossbars to make sure it fits with the mounting hardware installed on the cargo carrier.  However, "fit" only refers to the crossbars themselves. Longer cargo carriers may interfere with the operation of the vehicle's rear hatch. To check your vehicle's hatch clearance, please use the guide linked below. This will help you measure the roof of your car to see if you have the space required to attach a cargo carrier and still be able to completely open your rear hatch.  https://www.thule.com/-/s/approved/std.lang.all/90/75/649075.pd

Q: Does it fit 2010 Honda Oddessy with factory rack?

1 Answer
  • A: If your 2010 Honda Odyssey has a factory rack equipped with crossbars, this carrier will fit. However, we suspect your “factory rack” may only consist of front-to-rear raised rails and does not have crossbars. If so, you will require a cross-bar system to complete your roof rack before installing this cargo box. We carry a Thule Complete roof rack system, available as Product #040-1767 for raised rails, which will fit your vehicle. Alternately, we also carry a SportRack Frontier complete roof rack system, available as Product #040-1085. This rack system will also complete your rack system and you will be able to install the cargo box.

Q: will the THULE CASCADE 1700 fit on a recent (2007) model CRV. We have the standard CRV rood rack.

1 Answer
  • A: This box will fit your 2007 Honda CRV, provided that your standard roof rack includes crossbars (required to install a cargo box). If not, you will require a Thule custom-fit roof rack system that can be made available to you via Special Order from the Auto Service and Parts counter at your local Canadian Tire. When installing the cargo box, you may find your rear antenna will obstruct the box as your vehicle has a very short roof line and this is a long box. The antenna can be temporarily removed while using the cargo box by unscrewing it from its base.

Q: Will this fit a 2011 BMW 328i xDrive sedan?

1 Answer
  • A: This roof-top cargo box will fit on your 2011 BMW 328i xDrive sedan provided you have a roof rack system with cross-bars. If you have factory rails installed, we carry cross-bars that can be used with your system, or we have standalone cross-bars that can be retrofitted to the body of your vehicle. See the fit-guide in-store for more details. Remember, this box is 91” long and may overhang over your front and rear windows slightly as well.
