Functionality not clear

My original Schlage smart lock failed. I replaced it with this "Connect" series doesn't work with the Schlage hub I already have so now I can't see status from my phone. Schlage is not clear which smart deadbolt series works they way you need, they have at least 3 versions. Once installed it's impossible to return. Very frustrating
No, I do not recommend this product.

I have two of these units, one on the house and one on my shop. They are excellent in that I can lock or unlock the doors from anywhere. They also integrate with my alarm system so that I know their status at any time. Separate codes for each user immediately identifies who is coming or going. Locking the door from the keypad will also arm the alarm on exit, although entering your code to unlock does not disarm the alarm. You can set up individual and temporary codes for guests, and also decide who gets access to which lock. I am on the same set of batteries on the first unit a year later. I have been very happy with this product.

Q: What “service” do you need to make this function as a smart lock? Is it just internet access or data from your smart phone or is a whole system or hub required?

A: It will work with various hubs (can work offline with hubs like Hubitat and open source HomeAssistant). It also interfaces with Telus smart home security hub and assistants from Google, Amazon and I believe Apple.
