    Stopping the Drain

This new sink drain replaces the original installed back in 1986. My wife went to pull out the stopper after washing the dishes. The whole assembly came out letting the water drain into the cupboards below. Upon finding this new one at Can Tire, it was just a matter of removing the old corroded threads from the remaining brass insert. The new basket fit into place quite nicely. Although it was brass, I was wanting to replace it with a basket having an ABS coupling, that way it would never corrode again. No such luck finding one, anywhere (when they used to make them, they were abundant). The glue and couplings were not needed in the end, as the originals were fine.

    Questions

    1 - 3 of 3 Questions

Q: How does it hold for washing dishes with hot water?

    2 Answers
    • A: The strainer plug when inserted and pressed down to seat will block water flow out of the drain, its held in by a spring on the tail end of the strainer (rather than the push and turn, or pop down type strainers - hence the lower cost). When it is inserted but not pushed down will allow the sink to drain and the cup collect food debris. Over time the spring might get weaker but it can be expanded with a table knife if its not gripping the drain sufficiently to seal.
