not worth the money

Quite disappointed in the product. First off you need to apps installed to get notifications, Next my other smoke detectors that are in the front and rear of home go off before the Nest and that's if the nest go off that is in the middle of the hose. Did a live smoke test and lets just say the smoke detector went off a full minute before the nest that was in my hand with a smoke stick 4" away went off and i did not even get a notice from the app until i opened the app. If i could return i would but the box is already in the garbage

the app s faily buggy. if you want to have family members with access you have to get the Google home app as well, then they all have to have a Google account. then you add them to the home app and then the nest app will recognize them. the home app will not even recognize this product. looks like Google does not want to support their product

Q: Would this work in the garage where the temperature could drop to -20 C ?

A: The product material in the box indicates not recommended for use below 4.4 degrees Celsius, including unheated buildings. Mine is battery powered and I suspect -20 C would have a rapid draining effect on the batteries.

A: No. Battery. Installed easy with the correct screw driver or drill. Has a motion night light. Bought for my mom who has limited vision. Her wifi but paired with my phone for added security

Q: I have a Nest Carbon monoxide/smoke detector and the batteries go dead after 6 weeks. Any idea what is causing this?

A: Nest Protect uses Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA (L91) batteries. Using types of batteries other than the ones recommended by Nest will be harmful to the smoke and CO alarm operation. Things to know : - Don't mix and match batteries. - Don't place new batteries in with old batteries. - Don't use rechargeable or alkaline batteries.

Q: When they expire and stop working in 10 years, what notice do I get?

A: It will stop working 10 years from manufacture date. You get a note: Expiring Nest Protect. Replace your Nest Protect soon. All smoke and carbon monoxide alarms expire. Your Nest Protect(s) will stop working on: Hallway: Nov 29, 2023 Basement: Sep 9, 2025. I was surprised to learn that they expire and you get a small coupon ($10). I won't be replacing most of my units with new Nests

Q: How far apart can they work from? I want to put one in the garage which is about 60 to 70ft' behind the house. Would it still be able to alert me if there was a fire in the workshop?
