I bought this unit to run my tv, cable box, a/v reciever, gaming system and my surround sound. After figuring out which units should be plugged into the constant power outlets and which can be turned off with a remote I found this unit to be perfect for me because it can eliminate the ghost power problem for all my units . The tricky part was figuring out that to turn everything on required the remote to turn on the power bar first and then press the power button again to turn the system on. Bottom line once I figured out how it worked and did my cable management I am very happy with this product so far and if it protects my equipment from any power surges I would definitely recommend this unit to others.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Worked, now cycles.

IR reciever is broken now, it cycles power over and over again when powered down. Especially annoying since the sub woofer attached to my receiver makes noise every time it is turned on. Unit was about 6 months old when it failed.

Pretty but useless

The idea of making a vertical power bar is great. But this bar has only 2 functionning outlets. The master outlet won't work on any device that I have, so the 5 master controlled outlets won't work either.

Misleading: 8-Outlet power bar
This is for a TV set up. It is not for computers, external hard drives, etc, as I hoped. It would have saved me some dismay if it indicated on the box that it is primarily for TV and ‘other related TV devices’. The words ‘8-outlet vertical power bar’ deceived me into believing that it was designed to provide power to eight electrical outlets controled by an 'on/off switch'. The “Master Controller” is the TV remote, and I didn’t purchase it to use with my TV and ‘other related devices’.
I agree with the other reviewers who suggest a better design with 1. a remote for the power bar or 2. an override. If you aren’t using it with a TV with a remote, the only outlets that are useable are the two “Always on” electrical outlets and the two USB outlets, which defeats the purpose for which I purchased it. However, who wants to bend down to the floor to plug into a USB outlet when there are perfectly good ones on the laptop or CPU which are more accessible.
It is esthetically appealing from the front; slim, upright with the ‘two decorative LED (blue) light bars’, and the other LED indicator lights, that indicate it is operating. It has protective sliders over the electrical outlets when those outlets are not in use. It hides the electrical plugs in the back. But for the price, I was looking for 8 outlets that worked with the ‘on/off’ switch.

Q: How do I get the 5 'master operated' outlets to work?
The 5 master operated outlets don't work. On the front of the bar, there are three lights - 'surge', 'ground' and 'master' - surge and ground are lit but 'master' is never lit..

A: Make sure the item plugged into your "master outlet" is a device that has a remote control of 38 KHz.
The master light is said to light up when you press any button on the devices remote (example power button).

Q: How do I get this powerbar to work?
Want to use for: *Laptop*Cordless Phone*Lamp*USB for Blackberry/ iPad. Can only get power in "ALWAYS ON" outlets. No power in USB outlets(no light either)

A: The power bar needs to be activated by a remote control to operate the controlled outlet. If you can borrow any infrared remote from a small stereo or TV that will work. Plug your phone and lamp into the always on outlets. Plug your laptop in the master control outlet and a printer (for example) in one of the master controlled outlets. Your lamps and phone will operate any time you want. To get your lap top to work you will need to use the remote, press any button and point it at the power bar. This will turn the power bar “on”. Within 10 seconds, turn on your laptop. The power bar will sense power draw and activate the power to the master controlled outlets (printer). When you are done, you can turn your lap top off as per usual. The power bar will sense no power draw and it will cut the power to your printer automatically. You will not have to turn it off on its own thus saving you electricity if you forget or if it draws phantom power. If you unplug your laptop and use it’s battery but still want to use the printer you can’t. Remember, as soon as you turn off or unplug whatever is in the master controlled outlets it will cut the power to the controlled outlets. It may sound a little awkward with the use of a remote but this power bar was designed primarily for home theatre use where access to remotes was available and interconnect peripherals (TV, cable box, home theatre, DVD player) were used.

Q: why is our noma tower power not working properly?
ours keeps shutting down, nothing is working properly, box had no instructions as to how everything should be plugged in.
1 Answer
A: Instructions on how to operate the power tower should have been included in the box. Without knowing what equipment you have plugged into the power tower I can’t diagnose the issue exactly but I will try using examples.
The power tower has to be turned on with a remote control first before any equipment can be turned on. It can be turned on with any infrared remote control you have.
For example: Plug your TV into the master outlet (red) and a DVD player and home theatre into the master controlled outlets then press the red button on the top to turn on the blue lights. You are now ready to operate the power tower.
When you use your remote to turn on the TV, the first time you press the power button it will turn on the power bar. The second time you press it, it will turn on your TV. The power tower senses power is being consumed by the TV and it will turn on the master controlled outlets so the outlets the DVD player and home theatre are plugged into become active so they can be turned on if you wish to use them. If you turn off the TV, the power tower senses the TV is no longer consuming power and it shuts of the master controlled outlets thus your DVD player and home theatre will automatically turn off (if you turned them on originally). You cannot operate the DVD play or home theatre by themselves. The TV must be turned on and operating at the same time. The advantage of this set up is if you watch a DVD movie and turn off the TV but forget about turning the home theatre and DVD player off, the power tower will do it for you and save you energy.
If you decided you want to plug in a small remote control clock radio into the master controlled outlet, the power tower may not function as designed. The power tower senses power consumption and is designed to eliminate phantom power use. Phantom power is small amounts of power used by equipment even when they are off like internal clocks, lighted buttons and other internal functions. The power tower will turn on when the remote control is pressed and the clock radio will stay on for 10 seconds but then it will automatically shut off because the clock radio uses so little power, the power tower thinks it is using phantom power.
The power tower needs to have higher amperage equipment plugged into the master outlet like a TV, cable box or home theatre system to ensure it functions properly. Low amperage items can still be used with the power tower but they must be plugged into the always on outlets. They should not be used in the master outlet.
If you are still experience a shut down after 10 seconds regardless of what high amperage equipment you plug into the master outlet, the factory may have set the phantom power setting to high. You will need to exchange it for a new one that functions as intended.

Q: I have the NOMA 8-outlet Vertical Power Bar and the 6 master ports do not work at all. What can I do to get these to work?
I found an answer saying that I need to turn these master ports on with a remote. What do I have to enter into the remote while pointing it at the power bar?
1 Answer
A: You should plug ther cable box into the master outlet and then plug your TV into the Master controlled outlet. You should point the remote for the cable box at the power bar and press the on button. This will turn the power bar on. If you press it again the cable box will turn on.
Technically, any remote pointed at the power bar will activate the other master controlled outlets.
