Molded Fire/Water Document Chest, 1.06 cu. ft.

I just purchased this on sale, and even the regular price at CT is well below anything elsewhere. It is the Honeywell model 1108. From the Honeywell website: Outer Dimensions: 13.4"H x 20.1"Wx 16.9"D Interior Dimensions: 10.2"H x 14.8"W x 12"D Weight: 80.3 lbs (I measured 84.2 pounds empty) All steel construction (I found that the only steel is the lock and key.) The box states it floats even full, (flood ?) It is totally plastic inside and out (very clean look) with the latches attached with frail nylon straps. Honeywell does warrant replacement in fire. Small rubber ring for waterproof (must sit upright) Their diamentions are correct. My impression is that the insides are a poured or molded concrete for fire protection. A real negative is that the keys can not be removed unless it is locked and look like they could break off in the lock if hit. It is big and heavy, and would not be carried off in a robbery. You may want to find a box about same size for comparison before purchase. However if anyone wanted in, a single hit with a hammer would remove the lock. While the inside looks large it would not take much to fill with legal papers,passport, insurance, computer backup, flash drives, or anything of value that could get fire damaged. File folder hangers work okay each way, but anything with tabs or labels above will not fit. The manual states: "Honeywell Chests are designed to protect paper documents and files from heat and moisture due to exposure to fire and water" If used for this purpose (not robbery), I believe this will be an excellant purchase.
