    Do not purchase

Just returned this product and I do appreciate the CTC satisfaction guarantee. The fence was not straight nor was it square to the table and it had no adjustment capability. The throat plate was not flush with the table and it snapped in place with a little spring clip to keep it in place. There were no anti-kickback pawls nor allen keys included with my saw so do not throw away the packaging until you go over the complete parts list.

No, I do not recommend this product.

fence, rail, and angle cuts are never true

the fence mechanism is cheap and shifts on slight angles constantly, so a truly straight cut is almost impossible. Also cutting anything at a 45 degree angle (either with the blade or the cheap rail attachment) will never actually be 45 degrees. It's a bit of a nuisance.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Montage

Je viens de l'acheter ce matin en solde pour la fête des pères, pas vraiment d’explication pour le montage des pièces importante pour la sécurité, on doit deviner et regarder les images sur le net pour savoir ou ça va.

Great for home use A few initial problems

I just bought this saw for light home use. I am impressed with the sturdy construction, portability, and it is easy to store. I got it on sale for half the price of the DeWalt DW745 that I was also looking at. The DW745 has an impressive rack and pinion fence system, but I judged that the fence on the mastercraft with 5 inches of contact to square the fence against the table will be good for my requirements. Also the DW745 does not take dado blades, and the mastercraft will take 6 inch dado blades with the supplied dado throat insert. I had 2 problems out of the box. The rear mount that attaches the saw and motor assembly to the bottom of the table was so out of alignment that the blade interfered with the throat plate. I corrected this by putting the table on its back, locating the 2 hex screws at this mount, loosen them, adjust the blade to the proper position then tighten. The other problem I had was the fence broke during one of my first cuts. I made the mistake of going to the store to get this corrected when all I had to do was call the 800 number on the owner’s manual and they sent another rip fence. Once the blade was in place, the instruction book was good to follow for alignment. The offset cam adjustment to square the blade with the table was a bit confusing until I took this mechanism apart to see how it works. I have waxed the table. I have tested this saw on 2x4’s 1x6 and composite flooring with both rip cuts and mitre cuts, and am pleased with the results. I can see if I want a very fine cut I will have to change the blade. Hopefully this saw provides just as good service as the bottom of the line Canadian Tire 19 inch gas lawn mower I bought in 1983 and has been cutting my medium sized lawns for 28 years. It was bought in the days of leaded gas and I now use a lead substitute in the gas.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Does it come with a Dado insert plate? If not can It be bought seperatly?

    • A: If you are like me and enjoy getting the most from your purchases for the least money, I have the following suggestions. In addition to buying this saw for $170, I have made the following purchases: 6 Inch Dado Saw Blades p/n 55-1014-2 – For $70 I hesitated to buy this set with no immediate use, but on sale for $28 it was a no brainer. They should greatly increase the type of tasks I can do with this saw. The instruction book recommends 6 in blades rather than the more common 8 in, and a cut no wider than ½ inch. The saw designer has probably calculated that the inertia of this stack is about the same as a 10 inch blade. Any more would lead to an early failure of the saw. I tested this and got a maximum cut depth of 0.845 inches. If you want a wider cut than ½ inch, you can just move the wood sideways and make a second or multiple adjacent cuts. You may lose precision. Digital Caliper p/n 58-6800-4 – At $20 on sale this item provides much greater precision in laying out cuts and measuring them than a tape measure. It measures outside, inside, depth, and step to 2/1000 of an inch. Precision is the whole reason I bought the saw in the first place. Expandable C-clamp p/n 57-2662-8 – If you have acceptable c-clamps read no further, but if you need some to fasten auxiliary fence, or feather board you can get these for $4.43 each. They have a slip-lock mechanism on the spine. It may seem trivial but it allows you to position the clamp so you only have to make one or 2 turns of the screw. This is important when the turn handle is very close to the saw body. I found these in my store but not on the internet.

Q: Where can I find the manual? I bought this tool and it was missing the english manual. The blade is out of alignment and I need to adjust it but can't figure out where the adjustment bolts are. Where can I find the manual?

    • A: The french manual and english manual are the same book and mine was included in the box. The alignment problem you might be having is not described in the manual. You may have to look under the table beside the throat near the rear for the appropriate screws.
