Love it, could use a lower power setting than its current lowest setting.

Great tool. Maybe a bit overpowered for a beginner. I routed curves along the edge of a hardwood (walnut) countertop with this and it worked great.
I appreciate the universal vacuum attachment so it was easy to see the bit contact area.
The access cover to push the button to change bits however is not well designed. Once the motor heats up, it wedges the access cover against its edges and makes it near impossible to open it without scratching the clear plexiglass.
I found the solution was to not use that cover and just accept the slightly higher risk.

NOT FOR TABLE MOUNTING

For users who want to table mount this unit there should be a retrofit available to get rid of the power-off protection function. A service bulletin addressing this would be nice. Maybe all it takes is cutting a wire or one leg on a diode somewhere. On the box in big bold letters it should read "NOT FOR TABLE MOUNTING".
Seems well made with good power if not pushed too hard and effective dust removal but I am soured on the table mount issue. I'm going to have to get a new router to table mount.
No, I do not recommend this product.

great router with one major problem

I purchased this router over 6 months ago. I am a woodworker and use it mostly in my shop. it works great - strong motor and does exactly what you would want when using it by hand. here is the problem - it has a safety switch in it so you cannot use a remote switch. this is important if you want to insert this router into a router table and not want to have to reach underneath to turn on and off. it is a safety "feature" to prevent it from turning on accidentally, but should have an override for table use.

Q: I have purchased this router and after mounting in a third party table. I have to start the router via the switch on the router. The table mounted switch will turn off the router, but will not turn it on. Is this router designed this way? Counter prductiv

A: I have the combo fixed/plunge Maximum combo (no case was offered back in Nov of 2019) when I purchased it. I have the fixed base mounted to my KREG router table with their optional table switch that turns on the vacuum with the router, works flawless. The lock on the plunge, however needs to be tighten up somehow as it tends to be somewhat loose and had the router spring up more then once.

A: I Googled for the manual and got toolservicenet.com which supplied a manual. Page 29 explains how to replace the carbon brushes, Page 39 refers to carbon brushes in the trouble shooting section.

A: Awesome router, I am using mine with the older Veritas table. I am aware the Maximum is very similar to the Skil, Kreg says that one is compatible.
