    Broke mixing thin set

Bought the drill to mix thin set for a home tiling job. The motor was powerful enough but a screw that holds the chuck to housing snapped making the purpose of the drill useless. Light duty jobs only until fix is ever done.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    As good as any

As with every company, I know sometimes Mastercraft can get it wrong... but definitely not this time. It is worth the money even at regular price. This drill should be advertised more. it is solid.! i have been tiling for 8 years and this beast makes my job so much easier. I don't know what else to say... Just buy it and you'll see

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Pretty good low gear drill

I like this drill. It has decent power for turning hole saws, and an auger bit, both of which I have used with fait frequency on a remodelling project. If you mix drywall mud for a living or mortar, you'll more than likely buy a real contractor grade tool for the job. But if you're drilling a bunch of holes on a job site, using it occasionally at home, this will last you a really long time. The supplementary handle does in fact screw into a plastic receiver on the main tool as the previous reviewer stated, however it's still pretty solid, and I doubt it's going to be an issue unless you beat the heck out of the thing on a daily basis on the job. It's not meant for industrial use, it's a home use/occasional job use tool, and that's the capacity in which once should judge its design. It's in that regard I give it five stars...for its designated purpose I see it lasting a good long time, trouble free. I'd certainly recommend it.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Average performance, OK quality

Out of the box it feels solid and hefty. The gear housing is metal, and it has a larger than average chuck capacity. That being said, the body and handle are plastic, it has only a single position for the attachable handle, and the threads it screws into are plastic, leading me to believe it will likely strip out over time. The power cord is very thin..almost flimsy. That's an area they should not have skimped on. Pick it up by or drag it by the cord even a few times it's going to get damaged, and that kind of thing they won't cover under warranty. Also, a selling point on the package touts aluminum gears for heat dissipation. I don't think aluminum is known for it's durability guys...but perhaps for its relative cheapness when compared to hardened steel gears. Yes, it has slightly superior heat conductive qualities to steel, but copper is better than aluminum, silver is better than copper...wouldn't use those in place of steel in a torque bearing application though. Cudos on trying to make it a selling point for your bottom line, but come on...it does not enhance durability. Better than plastic gears I guess. If you're mixing for an extended period it tends to heat up, though I haven't had it smell burnt. It will mix drywall mud no problem, it will mix thin mortar no problem. Drilling holes with a hole saw it's ok, but I can't help but feel the power could really be juiced up a bit. More amps, as in. Sometimes you feel it struggle on a large hole. It handles a 1" spade bit without issues. Sound wise it's about as loud as other mud mixers I've tried (Makita, Rigid, Dewalt). No complaints in that regard. Don't get it expecting to use it on a jobsite regularly. It's really an occasional use home tool, for the do it yourself type of guy. It WILL do what it says it will do. Unless it was on a mega sale though I wouldn't really recommend it, as when regular priced it's just too close to brands that bear much higher quality and can be used hard for a long time on the job. If it's on for typical Canadian Tire fifty percent or more sales, then seriously consider it. For anything but abuse they'll switch it out, so in that case it'd be a worthwhile purchase.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: what rpm does drill run at in low mud gear

    1 Answer
    • A: There are no settings on the tool. The speed will always be variable between 0-650 rpm. Under load the speed will be less than 650 rpm, however, the ultimate speed during use depends on the use. If using to mix mud, the thicker the mud, the slower the speed the tool will be running even if the customer is using the tool at top speed.
