Product awesome overall / removable tank flimsy
10 months ago
I bought it almost a decade ago and I ran it non stop mode with an external timer. It has worked perfectly. The only issue I have faced lately is that hairline cracks developed in the removable plastic water collection "tank". The tank has too many closely fitting edges and, over time, the plastic of the tank cracks. The manufacturer should have used a cylindrical shape which would have made the tank more durable. Moreover, the tank has a flimsy "handle" that enables it to be handled after it is slid out (removed) when when full. Other than the aforementioned issues, the product works perfectly as a dehumidifier but the removable tank is flimsy.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Why won't the dehumidifier stop when the bucket is full?
My dehumidifier won't stop after the bucket is full. Twice I have come home to a flooded basement. I checked the floater and it is in place. Any ideas?

A: Had a similar issue just this year (have owned this unit for about 5 years). The bucket full detector switch (inside unit, top left corner) was sticking so unit never thought bucket was full.
I sprayed a bit of lithium grease on it and works fine since.

Q: How loud is it?

A: It is quieter than my old unit but I would not say it is quiet. There is almost no difference between high and low fan (I had to listen carefully to even notice any change at all between the settings)

Q: Can you please advise if it's normal that warm air blows out from the top?
I plugged it in on Sunday to reduce the humidity level in my house and all I feel is warm air coming out, I haven't heard the compresser kick in at all but the bucket still fills up.

A: Yes, normal for warm air to blow out, it's the heat recovered from the unit condensing the moisture from the air. Think of how the moisture got into the air, from heating during cooking or the heated water of baths and showers. When the moisture condenses in the dehumidifier you get back the heat that originally evaporated the water. In winter a dehumidifier reduces dampness plus produces warm air.

Q: Why won't my 50 pint Garrison DH shut off when the RH setting is reached.
Unit will not shut off. I have tried in Auto mode with the RH at the default 50% and the fan on auto and I have tried in manual mode with the RH set to 55%. The RH is displayed at 52%. The RH will not go lower than 52%.

A: Mine shuts off, but it takes at least 5 minutes for the fan to stop after the humidity setting has been reached. I think that last few minutes is so that the coils warm up to room temperature then dries. Mine shuts off when it's set to "Manual / 50% / Auto Fan".
One other thing, the humidity readout isn't that accurate, but most aren't.

Q: What is the warranty on this dehumidifier? The ad says it has a "special warranty"? Is Garrison a Canadian Tire exclusive brand?

A: I just bought one. The manual says 5 year parts and 1 year parts + labour. Trileaf Distribution repairs it within the warranty period but it needs to be returned to Canadian Tire within the warranty period.

Q: right size of drain hose?
can you tell us the right size of drain hose? we would like to connect it with a garden hose to drain the water out. We used the standard garden hose, but garden hose cannot pass through the drain hose cover.

A: The opening on the side of the unit to pass through the garden hose is quite small. I had to cut the end off of my garden hose and buy a new smaller metal end from the hardware store that was small enough to get through the opening.
It a standard size garden house fitting inside the unit -- they just sized the hole on the side to be for the old style, simple metal garden hose end.

Q: je voudrais mettre cette appareil en permanence dans le vide sanitaire de mon immeuble. Est-ce que l'appareil suffirait pour 1500 pieds carrés???
Q: When set on manual setting and the dehumidifier reaches the humidity level, does the fan shut off as well as the compressor?

A: I bought this unit today and I can confirm that the fan DOES stop shortly after the compressor stops (at least that is how it works with the fan set to AUTO).
Not sure why others in the reviews say that this is not the case.
