    Good area light

I really like this light - it is a very nice area light. The promised 100 hours of light is not full on, but on the very lowest setting. That's great for an anchor light, but it is pretty hard to actually hit the lowest setting. Holding the button in cycles the light intensity up and down and it requires hair fine timing to hit the lowest setting. It's a little bright for a table lamp if set to max - the diffuser is quite blinding and some sort of shade would have been good. Over or near a campsite is where it really works - or as a hand held lantern.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Mysterious strobe function

Although it functioned as a great reading light for the cabin table in 2013, it stopped delivering a nice bright light after less than 10 hours of use. In the late spring of 2014, I checked and re-installed the batteries, only to discover it would only go into strobe-light function. Problem is that it is not supposed to have a strobe function! Quite impossible to read by continuous strobe! ha ha. Switching batteries had no effect. Energizer has asked me to mail it to them and so I shall. We are all mystified. A very rare switch glitch?

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Small, simple, well built

The handle doubles as a strap that holds the lantern closed. When you do so, it can be difficult to get it off again. The only real issue I have is the battery compartment is held on with a screw. You'll need a toonie or at least a quarter to open it up/close it down. This is secure and works very well but as I keep this unit in my office as a backup emergency light, it would be nice to have a 1/4 turn lock or a slide lock on the battery compartment to allow me to store the batteries separately and quickly install them when I need the light. A nice, solid lantern and I'll probably pick up a second one the next time they go on sale.

    Yes, I recommend this product.
