Replacement Humidifier, drum style..

This humidifier is quite comprehensive. Contained everything you might need, tubing, copper valves, ducting,etc. most I didn’t need as I was replacing an old version that died a peaceful death. However, rusty screws meant demolition to remove, deforming the opening. What has this to do with the new one? It’s made of plastic and deformed easily causing issues getting it level and square. Left or right side air entry is helpful, however water float must come in at left. Water entry splashes somewhat causing drips. Nice looking though.

Obviously the company that sells this to Cdn Tire needs a little correcting. Mostly it all looks great when unboxed and i was wondering what other were complaining about. Looks like modifications to the unit have been made without updating the instructions or they have subbed in other parts to keep the assembly line going. The float was virtually un-adjustable due to the design. And the splash diverter (through with the float value is installed) actually prevents the float mechanism form working at all. I have to re-bend the float arm for it to function. Over all it took way longer to install that it should have. I have installed several (other makes) over the years and never had an issue. The price was right compared to others on the market but even more expensive models have been getting poor reviews.

Purchased this product approximately 3 years ago. It was professionally installed and it last only 2 years before the motor died. I was told by my HVAC contractor that it was a low-grade unit and not worth spending the money to fix. I will be transitioning to a fan operated unit vs bypass. Although I am loyal to CT for most things, I do not recommend this product.

Q: I installed this humidifier 3 days ago but there seems to be a problem with the motor. When the humidistat calls for humidity the drum starts to turn but only for a few revolutions, then it stalls. Is there a known problem with the motors?

A: I contacted Desert Spring about this and they immediately shipped a new motor. Dehumidifier works perfectly now. The Desert Spring customer service was excellent.

Q: I have pex piping, how can I connect water. can I use the quick connect suppied or is ti only for copper?

A: I believe it should pierce through the pex, but you could bring a small offcut of pex to the store with you and see if it will work.

A: The drain is strictly for over-flow protection in case of a the float valve malfunction.

Q: How does this (Desert Spring Drum humidifier) differ from the Desert Spring Rotary humidifier? Was using Desert Spring rotary disc humidifier. Motor has given way (again) due to bad quality tap water clogging and damaging it. This model seems cheaper. Would I be able to replace the broken one using its existing openings?

A: The products are quite different in terms of the evaporative media. The Rotary Disc unit uses a durable plastic cleanable media with a 10-year limited warranty. The Drum unit uses a disposable foam media which should be replaced once or twice per season depending on the amount of scale in the water. The contact surface area of the rotary disc wheel is also greater, which means the Disc unit produces more humidity and works much better at lower room air temperatures. The hole for the by-pass duct is the same, the cut-out for the drum unit is slightly larger.
