    Not bad at all!

I was in the market for a rangefinder and came across this one on sale. For under $160, it definitely delivers. I purchased it primarily for bowhunting, so long ranges aren't a big concern for me. Pros: Very fast aquisition for closer ranges. Optics are better than I expected. Feels comfortable in the hand and seems to be fairly durable (time will tell on that one!) A good battery is included, as well as a case. The magnetic flap on the case is a nice touch for quiet operation. Cons: The LCD display is not overly easy to read in low light. I also wish it had an ARC mode, although I doubt it would make much of a difference in the situations I find myself in. For treestand hunting, I can range certain areas around my stand before ascending to get a better idea of the true distance. To work around the lighting issue, I turn towards an area that is brighter immediately after making the aquisition. That provides the contrast necessary to be able to read the LCD. The distance measurement is maintained for thirty seconds after acquisition. The usable range is good, and one has to bear in mind the reflectivity of the target, as well as other conditions such as ambient light and fog etc. For instance, for ranging a deer, expect to get about 200 yards range. At the full price, I would say it's comparable to the Chuck Adams Bowhunter series by Bushnell, except the Chuck Adams rangefinder has the ARC mode. If this one wasn't on sale, I think I may have opted for the Chuck Adams one instead. Overall, I'm quite happy with my purchase.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Can it measure in meters?

    1 Answer
    • A: UNIT OF MEASURE OPTIONS The Sport® 850 can be used to measure distances in yards or meters. The unit of measure indicators are located in the lower right portion of the LCD. To select between yards and meters, the unit should be off. While looking through the eyepiece, press and hold the POWER button down for approximately 5 seconds. During this time all liquid crystal segments and icons will be displayed. As you continue to depress the power button, the display will toggle back and forth between Yards and Meters. Once the unit of measure desired is displayed, simply release the power button. The device will return to the last unit of measure setting used each time the unit is turned on.
