Wiring Issues

Upon installing this product in our home, the rangehood was turned on and the lights were malfunctioning. We removed the product . An inspection by our electrician revealed faulty wiring within the rangehood. We returned it to Canadian Tire for a refund. We then contacted Nutone-Broan to advise them of this issue.

Quiet on low speed but loud on high speed

The range hood looks great but I find it loud on high speed. I would also prefer to use LED bulbs but they are not recommended. A big improvement from the cheap range hood that my new house came with.

Great looking range hood and fairly quiet even on the high setting. Decent steam and smoke removal as I am just using the non-vented mode with the optional charcoal filters. Most say the halogen lamps put out too much heat but you can remedy this by using PAR 20 LED (dimmable) bulbs so that you can maintain the use of the high and low light setting, they don't get hot at all and won't blind you either, lol. Easy to install as the screws from my old Broan line up perfectly. Recommend highly.

I replaced by old hood with this one. 11 steps of prepwork before connecting it to electrical which is more work than I expected but it wasn't hard and the holes pretty much lined up with my old ones. It looks great and i like that there is a low and high setting for the lights which i never had before, but i shelled out an additional $45 for the bulbs and charcoal filters (non-ducted)

Q: Is there a damper that you would recommend matching to this product? I have installed the range hood but can now feel cool air coming in from the outside through the hood when the fan is not on. I would like to install a damper to prevent the backdraft.

  • A: I wanted to used the damper from my old Broan hood, but it didn't match up. I ended up taking it off, because it wouldn't open very well. You should rely on the damper mounted on the outside of your house. Maybe concentrate on stopping the draft there.

Q: Is there a Troubleshooting page for the lights as the halogen Par 20, 50W burnt out in one week Braun Rangehood 220 CFM One light burnt out in a week yet We have tried the lights in other sockets and they both work. At wits end and do not know what else to try. Could it be the wiring?

  • A: Use cfl , or led, halogen uses too much power, bulb holders are basic, no differance, BUT if u use cfl /led, always use HIGH.

  • A: Depends if it is installed ducted or non-ducted. If it is non-ducted installation, charcoal is required for efficiency.

Q: What is "hard wired"? Does this range hood have wires that need to be joined together somehow rather than a simple plug? Can anyone install it or should a contractor be hired? Thank you.

  • A: Yes, it has to be wired in. If you have an existing hood, you can simply replace the old one as the wiring is most likely the same. If, however, you're doing a new installation then you'll need an electrician to run some new wires off an existing curcuit.
