What to look for in a car detailing kit?

With car cleaning kits readily available both online and in-store, washing your car at home saves you time and money otherwise spent on professional detailing. Different types of car cleaning kits include more products than others. However, a few essential items are necessary when buying a new kit, irrespective of the brand you shop for. From products to clean and scrub the exteriors and tires to sprays and shampoos for the interiors, learn what to look for in your next car care kit.

What should I look for when buying a car cleaning kit?

Before investing in expensive car detailing kits, break them down into two categories: car cleaning products for the exterior and detailing kits for the interior. First, look at some essentials you'll need while washing your car's roof, body, and tires.

Tire brush and shine keep your wheels looking pristine. Since tires and rims are the most exposed to elements and require additional cleaning effort, invest in a good quality tire brush to wipe off the dirt and grime. Choose non-abrasive bristles which prevent scratching the rims. In addition, a tire shine not only restores the cleanliness of the wheels but can also help prevent cracking and premature aging.

Other handy products include mitts and drying towels. A high-quality washing mitt effectively cleans the body while ensuring it doesn't scratch the paint or the wax coating. Similarly, drying towels help absorb large amounts of water post-cleaning. Again, check to see if it's made of durable microfiber cloth or other similar materials.

Car wax is a must-have product. Avoid pesky water streaks, restore shine, and protect against the elements with a high-quality car wax.

Glass cleaners add instant sparkle. Post washing, spray glass cleaner to scrub any dirt and smudges to help restore visibility. Check for cleaners that do not affect your car windows' tint and UV protection.

Next, you'll want cleaning sprays and shampoos for the interiors for finer detailing. You'll want to invest in a vacuum with different nozzles, as tiny food and dirt particles can get lodged in tight spaces. Use an upholstery shampoo for your car seats to eliminate stains and odours but ensure the product doesn't damage the fabric. Next, choose a suitable interior cleaning spray on washable surfaces and wipe it off with a microfiber detailing cloth for other parts like the dashboard.

WestJet Points Earn Rate: Linked Members will earn WestJet points at participating locations including Canadian Tire and Party City retail store locations (both of which are independently owned and operated), SportChek, Mark’s, L’Équipeur, Pro Hockey Life, Sports Rousseau, Hockey Experts, Atmosphere, L’Entrepôt du Hockey and participating Sports Experts locations across Canada (collectively referred to as “Participating  Stores”) at the following rates: a. one (1) WestJet point for every two dollars ($2.00) CAD of eligible pre-tax spend at Participating Stores when paying with cash, debit, or any credit card other than an eligible WestJet credit card; b. two (2) WestJet points for every two dollars ($2.00) CAD of eligible pre-tax spend when paying with a WestJet credit card issued in the form of:(i) one (1) WestJet point as noted in (a) above; and(ii) one (1) WestJet point as a Credit Card Bonus.Other: At Participating Stores Linked Members are required to either scan their Triangle Rewards card, input the numbers of their linked Triangle Rewards account, use another Cardless Method, or pay with their Triangle credit card issued by Canadian Tire Bank. For WestJet Eligible Purchases, Linked Members are required to enter their WestJet Rewards ID prior to the departure of a flight segment. For Eligible Purchases at Participating Stores, Linked Members will earn WestJet points within forty-eight (48) hours.  For WestJet Eligible Purchases, Linked Members will earn CT Money within thirty (30) days of completion of a flight segment (any single takeoff and landing by an aircraft). Linked Members can convert WestJet points into CT Money at a rate of one hundred twenty (120) WestJet points to one dollar ($1.00) in CT Money.   A minimum of two thousand four hundred (2400) WestJet points must be transferred.  WestJet reserves the right to change the conversion rate and/or impose conversion limits (minimum/maximums) from time to time, in its sole discretion, subject to applicable laws and regulations. Conversion is optional and initiated solely by the Linked Member. Converted WestJet points will be permanently deducted from the Linked Member’s WestJet Rewards Account and replaced with CT Money, subject to the Triangle Rewards Program Terms and Conditions. Conversion transactions cannot be reversed, cancelled or converted back once completed. You can unlink your Triangle Rewards Account and WestJet Rewards Account at any time; however, prior to unlinking, Linked Members must ensure any rewards that are earned have been processed and credited to their rewards account.
