Product Details
Break the rust bonds that hold stuck parts together with our WD-40 Specialist Penetrant spray. It specifically targets corroded or rusted components and mechanisms. This powerful formula helps you loosens stuck or seized parts by targeting corrosion quickly and easily. The penetrant has an extremely low surface tension, meaning it can cut through rust, seams and tightly-bonded threads to easily saturate and lubricate seized fixings. The capillary action of the formula means it can help you reach tight and hard to reach spaces. Highly water resistant, WD-40 Specialist Penetrant can also displace moisture that may be disrupting smooth movement, and can be used as a preventative to prohibit the build up of rust and corrosion in the future.

Q: Can I use this for my bike chain.?
3 years agoA: The WD-40 Specialist Rust Release Penetrant product can be used for this application, and is ideal for use on nuts, bolts, threads, locks, chains and rusted things that are stuck and won't move. It is safe to use on plastics, rubber and metal. You may also want to consider use of our WD-40 Specialist Bike Chain Cleaner & Degreaser (073-0070-8), and our WD-40 Specialist Bike All-Conditions Chain Lube (073-0072-4) products for cleaning, and lubrication needs of your bike.

Q: Can I use this product to release and unscrew a rusty stuck Push/Pull bathtub stopper, without damaging the bath tub?
11 years agoA: Absolutely you can. If you can, remove the escutcheon plate to give yourself more access to spray the linkage pieces. If you are worried about the porcelain paint or the finish on a fiberglass tub,.. DON'T. wipe off any over spray or drops after you spray the joints.

Q: WD-40 Specialist Rust Release Penetrant Spray Product #38-1587-0 Can this product be used to coat the end of commercial grade 300 Watt light blubs to prevent them from drying out and resulting in them be hard to remove.
12 years agoA: We would suggest that this application is not recommended due to the dielectric strength of the product, or the capacity of the product to withstand electric voltage. A dialectic grease product would likely be more appropriate for your requirements.

Q: Will it break the rust in a trailer hitch receiver? Rust develops in the receiver sticking the hitch in it. I often need to remove it to use a hitch mounted carrier. Rust can make it difficult to remove, will this help?

It is a low odor formula that works on contact to free rusted nuts, bolts, threads, locks, and chains leaving behind a protective layer that prevents rust and corrosion from re-forming.

5 years agoA: The WD-40 Specialist Rust Release Penetrant product is meant for penetrating rust, and freeing corroded nuts and bolts. For this application, the WD-40 Water Resistant Specialist Silicone Lubricant (038-1586-2) would be a better choice. In addition, the 3-IN-ONE RVCare Slide-Out Silicone Lube (040-9704-6) is designed specifically for the RV slide track, and can be found in the RV/trailer aisle of most stores.

Q: my skateboard is rusted up and its so rusty the screws wont come out so would this loosen and take out the rust
12 years agoA: Given the customer’s situation the WD-40 Rust Penetrant would be a suitable product to use; we cannot guarantee that the bolt will be unseized but the product will help dissolve the rust and help free the bolt. I hope this helps.
