    Strong, easy to clean & dries in 2h per coat

    Strong protection, super easy to clean wih water & dries in 2h per coat. It also doesn't yellow with time. I think it's great! Next time I'll try gloss instead of semi-gloss though, mostly because I'd rather my table shine more.

    This varathane works great! Don't worry when you open it and see its white, because it will turn clear when it dries! Painting it when white makes it easier to see that everything got covered.

    Q: Is 3 coats on oak stair treads enough?

    • A: 3 coats would be fine. Depends on the size of container you bought, if you have enough for another coat l’d do that.

    Q: I am planning to use this on the stairs. Is it okay to step on the stair treads while doing the second/third coat?

    • A: I love this stuff. The nature of the wood (new/previously coated but now sanded), temp and humidity are all going to play a factor in your standing on it. (pun) If we stick with new wood, the first coat will soak up pretty fast. Work your way down and by the time the bottom is no longer tacky, move up and start down again. No shoes or socks that might leave fuzz. I would wait a while even after it isn't tacky for the second coat. Remember, this coat will not soak in so much. I would probably want to wait 24 hrs before sanding and starting the third coat. Don't them much for a couple days so there is a proper cure. Use ONLY quality brushes, thin coats, and don't overbrush it.

    Q: Can I apply this to painted kitchen cabinets, I used Laxtex paint I find is chipping would like to touch up and finish in this product. What is your feelings

    • A: Hi Karen, Many customers have applied our Varathane Diamond Wood Finish on painted surfaces successfully. That being said, we do not test our products with other brands and manufacturers. For this reason, it's always a good idea to make sure the previous paint has dried for several weeks to ensure full cure. And with any product, we always recommend testing on an inconspicuous area first.
