Seems to be working

UNBEARABLY LOUD!!!! Sounds like a jet engine at both speeds - can hear it through a closed door. Cannot visibly tell if the unit is working as the mist is invisible. Haven't been able to figure out how to get at the filter yet as the instructions are lacking detail in this regard. Used for 3 days and unceremoniously dumped in the garbage.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Startup Problem but now a Good Performer

The first 24 hours use of this unit resulted in no humidifying and no drop in the water level. I was ready to return it! I needed to examine the filters but the instructions give no illustration on how to access them. I opened up the unit through trial and error and realized no water was coming in contact with the filters. The filter holder is a bad design and was blocking the water from filling the filter reservoir. I lifted the filter and let water flow in. That is all it took. It now works as designed. I like the 2 speed fan which is very quiet. I use it mainly in the bedroom and it has raised the humidity level into the comfort zone. I recommend this humidifier for dry winter months.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I advise regular cleaning

This is the second winter we have used 2 of these in our home. Pros: affordable (especially if on sale), quiet, easy to operate (no filters or chemicals) Cons: leaves a grubby film that shows up prominently on dark surfaces and glass. I would also advise cleaning the units periodically with a bit of disinfectant. I cleaned them to put them away for Spring and the most disgusting and biggest clumps of mildew came out of it. Yuck! Next Winter, I will be doing a bi-weekly cleaning of the units.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Hi Betsky204! Thank you for choosing Sunbeam®️. We hope you are healthy and staying safe. We apologize for to hear that the humidifier produces dark film, we are more than happy to help you fix this. Try to use distilled water upon operating your humidifier. We hope this information helps. Have a wonderful day!

Q: How do you replace the filter?

2 Answers
  • A: Cleaning & Maintenance Instructions Humidifiers provide comfort by adding moisture to dry, heated indoor air. To benefit most from the humidifier and avoid product misuse, follow all instructions carefully. Please note that this is an electrical appliance and requires attention when in use. In addition, if you do not follow the recommended care and maintenance guidelines, micro-organisms may be able to grow in the water within the water tank. You must routinely follow the cleaning procedures that follow in order to ensure proper, efficient operation of your humidifier. Proper maintenance and cleaning is essential to the continued performance of your unit and the avoidance of algae or bacteria build-up. Daily Maintenance: 1. Be sure the unit is OFF and is disconnected from the electrical outlet. 2. Remove the housing and the tank from the humidifier and place in sink or tub. Remove the filter if applicable. 3. Carry the base of the unit to the sink, remove the wick, place in sink, drain any remaining water and rinse thoroughly to remove any sediment or dirt. Wipe clean, and dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. 4. Drain the water from the tank into the sink and rinse tank thoroughly. Wipe clean, and dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. 5. Put filter back in, replace the housing, then refill tank with cool tap water as instructed earlier in the Filling Instructions. Do not overfill. 6. Follow Operating Instructions to turn on the humidifier. Weekly Maintenance: To Remove Scale: 1. Repeat previous steps in Daily Maintenance. 2. Clean the base by partially filling the base with one 8-oz cup of undiluted white vinegar, or by using Cleanse Clean Solution (Model S1710) by the manufacturer. Leave this solution in the base for 20 minutes, while cleaning all the interior surfaces with a soft brush (brush not included). Remove base scale by wiping the base with a cloth dampened with undiluted white vinegar. 3. Rinse with clean warm water to remove the cleaning solution before disinfecting the tank. To Disinfect Humidifier Base and Tank: 1. Fill humidifier tank 1/2 full with water and ½ tablespoon of chlorine bleach. 2. Let the solution stand for 20 minutes, swishing every few minutes. Wet all surfaces. 3. Carefully empty the tank after 20 minutes, and rinse with warm water until you cannot detect any bleach smell. Dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. 4. Place filter back into base. 5. Refill the water tank with cool water and replace on housing (see Filling Instructions above). Follow Operating Instructions to turn the humidifier ON. 6. To clean the humidifier base, pour out all excess water. Rinse thoroughly to remove any sediment and dirt. Wipe clean and dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. Do not use metal cleaning utensils or abrasive cleansers.

Q: What is the real difference between this model and the cool mist one? I cannot decide which one is better. The cool mist one got four stars whereas this ultrasonic one got five. ultrasonic says no filter. The ultrasonic says there is no filter. Which is better

2 Answers
  • A: I had the same question and ended up with 3 of the cool mists for our condo and am happy with that decision. From what I've read and seen, they are both very similar and do an equally good job. The ultrasonic is new technology and therefore has the cool factor - but its long term use is unknown, so that is a potential question mark on reliability. The no filter is a big plus, but I've found that you don't need to replace it as often as the manufacturer recommends. It is a bit of a money maker for them, so I'd be a bit more conservative on replacing filters.

Q: How is the water reservoir filled

2 Answers
  • A: Pull the reservoir straight up by the handle. Unscrew the cap, Fill it up with cool water under a tap. Replace cap. Place it back into the humidifier. It's very easy, but a full tank could be heavy for a senior citizen.

Q: How often does the filter need to be replaced?

2 Answers
  • A: The red light comes on telling you that the filter needs replacing, but that is just a way for the manufaturer to make money (like replacing a blade in your shaver every other day when you don't need to). The light comes on after 3 - 4 weeks, but your owner manual tells you how to turn the light off, so you can do that without replacing the filter. My recommendation is to replace it every 2 - 3 months if your using it constantly or frequently, -making it last 2 to 3 times longer than Sunbeam recommends.

Q: What size house is this good for? We have an 1800 sqft house. Would this work for that size house?

2 Answers
  • A: I have 3 of these units in my 1500 sq ft Condo (one in the masterbedroom, one in the livingroom and 1 in the spare bedroom). All are running at 40% humidity and on low fan speed..And they're doing a good job with the humidity levels. You could probably get away with 2 but you'd have to run them at full fan speed.
