Looks like it should be great, but really isn't

We bought this for our second because we generally like Skip Hop products. What a disappointment! The design is flawed (probably to avoid patent infringement against the far superior Diaper Genie) and it makes using it a constant struggle. The way it works, there's a locking lid that needs to be pressed in to open and covers a hole with a flap that seals the dirty diapers in the bag away from the outside. The lid is finicky at best, and the lock often slips into place by accident and it won't open. Not what you want when you're holding a dirty diaper! Under the lid there's a cylindrical space where you're supposed to put the diaper before closing the lid and pushing a button to open the flap so the diaper can fall into the bag. That cylindrical space is too small, and larger diapers tend to get pinched when you close the lid, meaning they won't slip into the bag when the flap is open. When that happens, you have to shake the whole thing to make it drop, or else open it all up and push the diaper in with your hand. Why would I want that? I bought a product like this so I have to spend as little time as possible touching diapers! The flap itself is a problem, too. It doesn't open very wide when you push the button, so unless the diaper is heavy and can push the flap open farther, then it gets stuck. Again you have to shake it to make it go down into the bag, and all the while the bag isn't sealed and is letting dirty diaper smell out into the room. If the bag is too full it blocks the flap (which is hinged at the back and swings open into the bag), and again you need to shake it to make the diaper go in. The amount of time I've spent shaking that thing! All in all, the Diaper Genie we had with our first was a FAR better product. Even accounting for the fact that the DG takes custom bags and Skip Hop's product will use any bag, the frustration from it all wasn't worth the savings. Our LO is just about done with diapers and I eagerly await the day I can put this out on the curb. Avoid!

No, I do not recommend this product.

Lasted 8 Months :(

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I absolutely love this pail but unfortunately ours only last 8 months before not closing anymore! I am so upset as now it doesn't work and it's very much a needed item in a nursery!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Mold

Bought 2 years ago. Love it. 1 major issue- which if we had checked the underside could have been prevented I think -but possibly not. There is mold growth from the moisture and lack of cleaning on the rubber of the bottom that is seals the top from the bottom - which I didn’t think to check.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great concept that could be improve

I love this trashcan! Things I love: • Style, • Uses kitchen trash bags and not the expensive diaper liners • The colors • How much it holds! Seriously! This thing holds so much and I always empty it at halfway otherwise it gets to heavy. Again, people who are complaining about having to leave space for the flapping door to open, it's common sense that is needed to function. When the trashcan is closed, I can't smell a thing in the room it stays in (which after 3 years of use is in our kitchen for dog poo bags). There is an oder when you open the first chamber to put a diaper in, but it's quick to put something in and close it. Don't leave that door open (common sense). After 2 years of use, the auto-locking feature broke, so we have to manually lock it each time now (annoying, but it's not hard to do). Needs design improvement in this area: • Autolocking latch needs to be looked at from a durability standpoint. Using it heavilyfor 3 years and still love it!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Would not recommend buying

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was so excited to get this trash can. I had it on my registry and was gifted it and I was stocked, however, it is horrible! The button to drop the diapers doesn’t work and then the diapers get stuck. If we can get the diapers to finally go down once the bin is half way full no more can go in it because the drop door starts to get stuck! Very disappointed in this products especially because of the price.

No, I do not recommend this product.

  • Review photo 1.
