I haven't had the same issue as Mel did. I typically only use the cooker to make white sushi rice. If I don't rinse it well enough it'll get a skin on the bottom of the pan but then that happens whether you use this cooker, another cooker or just a pan on the stove. When I rinse the rice properly (I just use a hand whisk to vigorously swish the rice around in the rice pan for about 20 seconds, drain, repeat, drain then add the correct amount of water) it's perfect. I use the Quick Cook function which cooks a single cup of rice in about 12-15 minutes. The main downside with this cooker is its size - it's very large in relation to the rice pan inside - I can't help but wonder if a company like Panasonic could have shrunk most of the machine down by about 30%.

Makes a solid disk of rice

I've been using this rice cooker since Christmas and the rice always turns into a solid lump at the bottom whether you rinse the rice or not. I tried adding a little oil but the oil burned at the bottom and the rice was the same. I also tried making a whole recipe as it suggested you can do but the sauce burned at the bottom and the rice still turned into a solid lump. There's just no winning with this machine.
