Works for entire downstairs

Every single winter I get nosebleeds once the furnace kicks on. I've tried vaporizers (difficult to control humidity, often too humid, mildew growth like crazy) and ultrasonic humidifiers (even with distilled water and 3 mineral balls in tank there would always be a white powder all over everything). I opted to give this evaporative humidifier a shot. It works for exactly what I need it for, no more white dust (using distilled water and zero mineral balls) and no more nosebleeds! It does work differently so the usual 35-45% humidity level maintained did go down to 20-25% (so in that sense it's not ideal to keep plants happy) but it was not a problem. The 40-60% range setting is AT the unit, not extended into the space it's humidifying. 25% extended is still in the acceptable zone according to our humidistat, so that's what I'm going with, with no more nosebleeds. It does need a 'daily' clean (or whenever the tank gets empty using distilled water), but it's just a simple tank top off, take filter out and set it aside (do NOT wash the top or the filter), rinse and wipe the tank, put the filter back in, refill with distilled water, put the top on and set it back to its spot to plug in and run again. Weekly cleanings involve much the same as above but before putting the filter/water/top back on, put just the top on (unplugged) and run a cup of white vinegar through the top grate and let it sit for 20 minutes. Take the top off, rinse and wipe the tank out (do NOT rinse the top part) and proceed from the daily cleaning from point of putting the filter back in. For me it's really low maintenance compared to the more complex humidifiers out there where you need to disassemble everything including floats and never actually getting into every nook and cranny to clean it properly. There is some noise when it's on full run levels (3 wavey lines at 60%) but nothing compared to any of the other humidifiers I've used before. On the lowest single line I sometimes hear what sounds like a chirp but it's just the fan and hardly noticeable. On full run I go through about one 4L bottle of distilled water into the 4L tank a day, less when it's milder out. Our unit sits 2ft 10in from any wall and is elevated about a foot, our plugs are covered. One filter will last about one winter and CT sells them.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Good but not great

I bought this humidifier for use in a small 10 x 12 room It works well except for the hygrometer: when I set it to 50% it struggles to keep the humidity at 35%. If I set it at 60% it will keep it at around 45-50% which is more than I want. So, I have to switch between 50 - 60% multiple times through the day. At night, I just leave it at 60%. Its large capacity lasts for 2-3 days. The user interface is simple and easy to understand. Levels 1 and 2 are quiet but level 3 is noisy so that I have to drop it back to level 2 to take phone calls. But the rest of the time it doesn't bother me. I definitely do not clean it every day; maybe every week or two. Don't let the user instructions on this subject scare you away. Everything but the hygrometer would make this a great unit.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Evaporative Humidifier

Returned unit as soon as I read in the manual that you are supposed to clean it daily and that it had to be 3 feet from any wall! Also not supposed to put it on the floor if you have carpet, which is where it was in some people's pictures in the comments. Where in a bedroom do you have room to keep it that far out into the room? I was looking for a top fill unit to make life a little easier so daily maintenance was not on that list. Might work somewhere else but not where I needed it.
