  • A: Oooops!  Oven should be at 350F to season cast iron.  I typed in 350c in my reply.  BIG MISTAKE. Sorry.... (in Celsius, it would be around 180c).  Anyway, I hope this helps/works.

Q: Is this safe to use over a campfire/open fire?

  • A: Yes, we as South Africans always use cast iron pots on open fire. To cook food and to make bread in it. It is totally safe and non stick and easy to clean. After usage and cleaning of pot, I do put it in oven to completely dry pot, wait until cold and then rub the inside of pot and lid out with olive oil and stuff it with newspaper (to prevent rust) with this your pot will look brand new even after years of usage.

Q: I used this cast iron pot to cook baked beans at a low hear for 6 hrs. I cleaned the pot but it has residue from the beans and I have tried a plastic scratchy pad but it remains stained. Any suggestions? Can I us SOS? Steel wool?

  • A: Clean pot to get rid of food particles and grease with dishwashing soap, then fill hot water tp the top and add 3 teaspoons of bleach stir and cover for 24 hours, once time up remove and rewash with dishwashing soap should be all clear - do not use SOS, steel wool this will damage the enamel.
