A: Most likely no unless you have a larger 3 year old. Booster seats are meant for children who have outgrown their forward facing child seats and who weigh at least 18 kg (40 lb). They raise the child and help keep the vehicle’s adult seat belt where it needs to be, to help protect your child. Don’t transition to this stage unless you are sure that your child has outgrown their child car seat and your province allows it. The lap belt must fit snuggly on the hips. This will help the seat belt bring your child to a stop during a sudden stop or crash and helps protect your child from injuries. The shoulder belt should sit in the middle of your child’s shoulder because this is most comfortable for your child and this makes it less likely for your child to wiggle out of the belt or put it behind him or her. This also makes the belt less likely to slip off your child’s shoulder during a sudden stop or crash.  Try the high back booster seat instead (Diono has the Cambria seat as an option but there are many options out there for this stage of car seat). If you choose a model that the back comes off you can transition once your child is >40 lbs and you won’t have to purchase another car seat.
