Clock/Menu display bad

I have this Microwave in a well lite area and I can barely see the display. Ours came with the braille overlay installed , which I don't need and I am thinking it's part of the problem. Maybe this product was a returned item? In order to see the display, I have to turn off all the room lights and during the day, I have to cup my hands around the display to see what is being shown. I don't remember this being a problem when first purchased.

Very nice little microwave but there is no way to mute the volume of the beeps and it is VERY loud. If I could have found a way to mute it, I would have given it 5 stars. I actually returned mine because I work shift work and it was so loud it would wake me up if my wife would use it while I was asleep.
